I got one a while back but couldn't figure out parental controls to filter what I want allowed on it.
And there is Noone to talk to on the website |
What's wrong with the vayimaien videos that you don't want them to watch?
They're actually really nice talks about being careful with what you do/ look at

I got it for them because I wanted them to be able to listen to music without needing an adult to turn on the computer/phone and needing to supervise.

Just adding to your powerful last sentence - ...raising frum kids is expensive, but, well worth the price.[b]

Totally agree! That's why I'm puzzled by all the posters who say that their child has to earn it. I'm so happy they're listening to Jewish music and keeping busy that way!

For some of us it may not be regularly affordable. I did say I’ll pay for the subscription which is yearly vs my son saving up his afikomen money to buy the actual device.

It's a luxury. My kids all had expensive kosher mp3s with loads of music on it. They wanted to upgrade and have even more options. They don't feel bad paying for things they want.

How do they have expensive mp3's with loads of music on it? If you paid for the music, its expensive. If its pirated, its stealing. Yeah I know not stealing is expensive, but what can we do???

I don't want my kids thinking that anytime they want something thats "kosher" that will keep them busy they have it coming to them to just get it.
Like Izzy dizzy/circle cards, naki radio, circle magazine and the loop, toovedoo subscription, honestly I can probably list another ten good things that keep them very busy off the top of my head, it's endless....
I also want them to learn how good it feels to get things after you've worked for them. It makes them appreciate it and take care of the stuff much more. They learn the value of money. Plus is a good lesson to take into adulthood....
I don't deprive my kids, they've gotten all the above examples over the years, but I didn't just hand it to them... Either it was for a birthday, Chanukah, afikomin pressent (or a combination if it was expensive), or something they worked for ( that we discussed together and came up with a fair plan to earn it)
They are so appreciative and really value what we've given them
Edta - there are sometimes some things we get them just bec (as we tell them - just bec we love them....)
For example my son's bike broke on middle of the summer (when he uses it tons) we got a new one, or sleep away camp for one of my kids who really really wanted it (but was young enough that could have still gone to the local day camp). But bec it's not routine, and they learned the value of money they know what it means when we give it to them and appreciate it so much more.

Tuition is not either affordable. We do it anyway.

BH tuition is affordable for me but it’s extras that make it tight.

My 13 year old daughter paid for it herself (though I ended up contributing about $25 for a different gift). She is also paying for the monthly subscription. But I do facilitate her earning money, like helping her make a camp in the summer and letting her do odd jobs for me at home to earn money.
I'm definitely a throwback to a previous generation who believes that kids need to know the difference between needs and wants. I will give some wants as birthday, chanukah, afikomen presents, but nothing as pricey as a 24/6.
