Afikomen and birthday present

And yes, it's way more than we typically spend on such gifts and I was a bit flabbergasted that "everyone" was buying such a pricey item for them for their children. Bh we can afford it but I still can't wrap my mind around parents just buying expensive gadgets for young kids.

If you mean other kinds of MP3 as well, he bought it with his own money. Dd earned one with “points” for good behavior.

I think the key is whether they have another way to play good Jewish content. I don't think you can even get current up to date music on CDs anymore, so if you don't want your kid to have an Internet-enabled general device then you'll need to give them access to this or an equivalent. Not sure how Naki radio compares in terms of function but I believe the price is not extremely different. You could probably get an mp3 player that you load songs onto manually but that's not free either and then you need to buy the music, and you'd need to make yourself available to maintain the collection if you don't want them accessing the Internet themselves.

Raising frum kids is expensive.

I'm hoping to get one for my kids to share...

Wish I could afford to buy for each of them for their birthday but it's way out of my budget...

Chanuka presents from grandparents and my kids all share one. We also have naki radios that were presents from other grandparents. Personally I could afford to just buy them each their own but don't believe in that chinuch. We made a big deal out of these and how lucky we are that grandparents bought these.

But how do you make sure that they don't watch the vayamen shmiras einayim videos?
I got one a while back but couldn't figure out parental controls to filter what I want allowed on it.
And there is Noone to talk to on the website

Birthday + Chanukah+ a reward for working on something for a few weeks (figured if you add up $50 for each of those things it comes out to about what that would cost...)

Had I gotten it for just one of those, the other kids would have wanted a present worth that much as well which is not an expectation I wanted to start.... It was still an expensive present for us as lots of times I buy them things in the 20-40 range and not 50, but he wanted it so much and I knew it would keep him busy for hours....

The subscription I pay for.... I use it as well from the app on my phone and canceled my Spotify subscription so I'm not spending more bec of it.

Because its instead of buying music on CD's etc. When I was a kid we (my family) bought CD's that came out, this is the equivalent. What else should my kids be doing? I'm happy they're listening to Jewish music. As another poster said, raising frum kids is expensive.

My 16 and 18 year old boys paid for it themselves (they earn quite a lot working bein hazmanim, summer, yeshiva programs). The are splitting a 2 device subscription fee.
I believe they value more the things they pay for on their own.
