I live in Toronto.
The US dollar is 1.40 to ours
If you saw the price of choc chips in our stores you’d cry
Think - 6.89, 5.99
Something along those lines

Prices are insane here Banging head

I know this isn’t for everyone but we buy a 50 lb case of pareve Belgian chocolate for less than $150. Lasts us for at least half a year (we host a ton and make a lot of meal deliveries so it should last longer for others). It’s good quality chocolate.

Omg yes they are!

Im In Uk and rarely buy them now.

Same with cocoa.
All the good makes went up and up ,in price and have now been discontinued.

Now theres only the "cheaper" makes now, and even those have gone up loads.

Supermarket brands are also really expensive.

So no chocolate chips here and cocoa is expensive, leads to very boring baking.

I buy the big 36 oz. bags of chocolate chips at Wegman's. They are parve and delicious. The price has gone up significantly compared to a year ago, but is currently $7.99. Since it's the equivalent of three 12 oz. bags, comes out to $2.66/bag compared to other stores so is still a great deal.

I replace them with rice crispies in cookies and bars. Gives it a little crunch!

I would imagine someone who is letting their kids sprinkle a few chocolate chips into their yoghurt is using plain yoghurt, otherwise it wouldn't need anything sweet. It's a great way to get kids to eat something *very healthy* - bio yoghurt is way better than just milk.

I don't think this is true. Would be nice if it was but I don't think so. Think of those yogurts that come with little chocolate balls or chocolate lentil/m and m's to pour inside the yogurt-those yogurts themselves are full of sugar. Not the plain kind.

Boring? Maybe yes. This is the time to try other alternatives. Cinnamon? Chalva? Apple pieces? Coffee? Nuts and almonds?
Hopefully harvests will be good and prices go down.

Second this. And they are very good quality. I like the very dark ones (70% I think). I think it’s worth it to make a trip.

They'll survive just fine without the cookie. Or maybe they'd rather try something new. Up to them. No need to stress

Chocolate is expensive because there is a massive shortage
They will be running out of chocolate sometime this year brands like Hershey’s and Mars, Callebut are panicking (google it massive crop failure etc)
Just fyi wegmans cc aren’t actual chocolate anymore and that’s what lots of brands are doing too more like chocolate powders not actual cacao beans being used. This is a global issue nothing to do with kosher

Nobody likes this chocolate price jump.
This is the time to turn to alternatives. Sugar covered nuts and almonds. Chalva. Dried fruit. Cinnamon.
It's time to move out of the cosy convenience corner we have had for so long and start to be industrious.

Omg! Really hope we can keep our prices from going that high in the US. Seems like chocolate chips are a thing for Canadians to stock up on if they ever visit the US.
