Hi I’m just wondering if other people are having this issue or if anyone has ideas… so my husband was in BMG for almost 10 years and is mid 30s. A position in chinuch is not for him (not that there are any openings but it’s not what he wants to do). He just cannot find a job. He has basic computer skills, he’s a smart guy, organized, he has positive energy, and I believe he would be a quick learner. He went to many interviews and nothing happened… what are we supposed to do? Some employers got back to him that they want someone with experience and someone else said he wasn’t polished enough (we heard this from a relative who works there). He is very put together. He spoke to recruiters and to pcs and nothing came out of any ideas that they suggested. He took a basic computer course too. Anyone else going thru this? What is a yeshiva guy supposed to do when it is time to go out to work at such a late age? Is the market just really bad right now?

Hugs op, its hard . Like you said the market isn't what it used to be in regard to hiring and pay. Sorry no advice.
Also I see a lot of post posting how much lakewood jobs pay, don't want to pop the bubble but I don't know where they are plucking the numbers from.

another way to find a job is to network. if ur husband has friends/neighbors/acquaintances/ relatives who are business owners call them or he should go down to their offices when they have a second to meet with him and let them know he is looking for a job and ask them to network among other friends who are business owners or ppl they know from doing business. I know some people who have gotten jobs that way when the reg routes weren’t yielding anything. not everyone advertises when they are looking for ppl. a lot of ppl just rely on word of mouth.

Try the Rav of the Shul/ neighborhood. Many rabbanim will reach out to Kehilla members to try to get someone placed in a position by them.

Is anyone in a similar position? Is it impossible for someone straight out of yeshiva to find a job or is it just him??

I know you said he is not looking for a chinuch job. Does ABA fall under chinuch? Because I'm sure there's a need for male aba therapists. He can even do subbing ABA until he finds a job and maybe he'll like it? pay is pretty decent depending on the agency.

Can I just say that you seem like a really supportive and kind wife. Your husband is so lucky to have you to go through this with. In the zchus of your kindness, may HaShem guide you with ease and find your husband the perfect job which is the right fit for him and beneficial to you and your family in every way. Thinking of you… I am anticipating that you’ll be able to share your good news about his job very soon.

It’s not just him. The job market right now is slow. As are many businesses.
Also, it might be a good idea for him to ask employers what specific skills would be valuable for him to have. If he spends some time developing those skills it can potentially be helpful on an interview. He’ll also come across as a little more than just a guy straight out of yeshiva.
(e.g. excel is endless, but the more you can use it the more valuable you are to most businesses.)

My dh has been struggling to find a job too. He doesn’t either have experience. PCS told him in this market, there aren’t really entry level jobs available for men.
I’m really sorry, I know how painful and demoralizing this is. My dh has been doing ABA and driving jobs for now, just to keep busy and make some money. I hope the economy will improve at some point in the not so distant future.

Those high paying jobs are for women. There is very little for men. By BIL has been looking for a while too. I’m sorry OP.
Maybe try Oorah - there is a wide variety of jobs and they take many people new to the job market.

It's so hard, I'm in a similar situation. Wondering if any of the medical billing offices are an option? They're always looking and many of them have men working there. (He can maybe do schooling like cope or something at night to get into something more specific in a few years etc)
Wishing you hatzlacha

OT, but does nobody see a problem with a social system that not only enables but actively encourages men to follow a path that leaves them with zero marketable skills?

Not just off topic but actively nasty and unhelpful. Don't bash OP's way of life when she is down and reaching out for help. Not that you're right either way but you're also not being nice.
