My bil passed away as a baby, when we asked our Rav what type of name to add to my son we were naming after he said any name. There isn't anything specific that's needed.

How close are you to the niftar? When I named a child for a relative who died young whom I remembered fondly, I chose a name that was a direct grandparent in case this child decided they liked the other name.

Thanks all for your responses. Sorry I didn't get back to see them until now. I'm a close relative. The person had an unusual name, so I don't feel comfortable sharing it here as I'll be easily identified by anyone who knows me IRL. I appreciate all the ideas. May we share simchas!
