They scare you with the challenges
The struggles
The moods
But no one talks about
The heartbreak
The good kind
The one everyone wants
The one that hits you
Like a sucker punch
Just the same
Knocks the wind out of your lungs
And makes you feel so lost
You have no idea who you are
Sometimes it’s a set milestone
Like summer camp
Other times
It’s this sudden moment of change
Like handing them their first phone
You thought you’d never
Be one of those parents
Holding on to the apron strings
Til your knuckles turn white
And so you don’t
You open your hands
You set them free
But no one ever told you
How much it will hurt
I guess you can call it
Growing pains
