Lenape is pronounced /li/ like lint. /na/ like Nachman. And /pay/ like the Letter on a dreidel. It is a native indigenous tribe to New Jersey.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I know about several cases where the kehuna of a family was called into question. It caused many problems, both halachically and socially. It's really no joke.

Interesting. Thanks. Does this town exist IRL?

Unrelated, how does one pronounce Lenape Falls? It's been bugging me. |
Google. The Indian tribe is pronounced leh-nuh-pee.
ETA: I posted this before reading the previous posts.

It’s not a joke at all.
You can see the author weaving the plot and characters into a story she mapped out carefully, but the halachic details are the one thing that might not get lots of attention.
There was an odd scene when Gabe was sitting shiva. His brother in law, Rivi’s husband, offered to get ten men together so he’d have minyan. Gabe said something like don’t worry he’s used to not having minyan from his years in the jungle. I don’t remember the conversation exactly but the reason I still remember some of it was that it seemed so off. There are lots of men who aren’t particular about davening with minyan three times a day, not a great thing but not unheard of. During shiva for a father his son says Kaddish. That’s a completely different situation. Even a man who never davens with minyan will say Kaddish during shiva and will appreciate someone making that possible. He won’t say thanks that’s so nice of you but you don’t have to bother, as if you offered to bring over a cake.
There are men who won’t take a job where they can’t daven with minyan, but the author might not want to have all her characters be unblemished tzaddikim. Saying Kaddish during shiva is different. It’s something you’ll find in unobservant homes where the men saying Kaddish need help with the words because they can’t read from a siddur.
It’s fiction and it kills it if we over analyze it as if it was real life. What I’m saying is I agree with Hunter that the kohen issue is a very big problem, but for her fictional story the author might not want to get herself hung up on halachic details.

What does protective services mean? The badge he found that said moshe garfinkel bear wood protective services.
Is this connected to the other posters prediction that they were in witness protection?

Sounds like he was forced to give up his identity of Moshe Garfinkel because he witnessed something in some type of security position. I'm guessing Martin knows the truth and may be guilty of something.

I didnt read the latest chapter, but from what we know:
Moish Garfinkel and Avigdor Cohen were best friends in school. They may have also looked alike.
Moish had two kids, Reva and Gavriel, both born in Bearwood. His wife died.
Avigdor Cohen, from Lanape Falls, somehow died. Some 20 years later, his body was found in the grave belonging to Avigdor Cohen.
But,somehow there is no record of his death because Moish took on his friend's identity. So Moish became "Avigdor Cohen", and Reva and Gavriel Garfinkel became "Cohens. "
ETA. I just read the latest chapter. It seems that someone else knows the secret because there have been two creepy scenes where an intruder was spotted. The first one was at the cemetary after Abba died. Both Gabe and Hillel spotted him.
The second is in this chapter. An intruder was in Abba's house.

Thank you for posting!! So helpful!
Can you post a link to the chapter with the intruder at the cemetery? I don't remember that at all. Guessing it was chapter 2 or 3 or so

I can't access the older chapters. They only show an excerpt, not the whole chapter.
It's weird. They write that you can view the whole thing by registering for free. But when I try to register, they want to bill me. Either I'm misunderstanding something or there's a mistake on the website. Anyone figure out how to register for free?

I think access is only from certain countries where it isn't available but email them to check.

Ok more spoilers/plot twists ideas...
I wonder if abba (aka moish) is a part of the mossad or shabak or smthing from israel
because, the only place he ever took rivi and gabe was to israel
and then gabe found that creepy note from the place they stayed in israel saying "I know what you did" This letter was signed by "M" which must be Martin-reffering to that he knew that Abba/Moish took Avigdor's identity which caused abba/moish to cut the trip short and hustle them home as was outlined in an earlier chapter

I just wanna register my prediction that the casually dropped "Abba taught Rivi how to shoot a gun when she was a little girl" from an earlier chapter will become relevant because Rivi will have to shoot someone

For me reading it on incognito browser works! It seems to me like that they limit 3 full articles and then you have to sign up for further access. Incognito doesn't track how many times you've accessed.

Hashgacha pratis! I happened to have picked up an old magazine over Shabbos and randomly turned to this column. And it was the chapter of the intruder at the cemetery! It's Chapter 12.
