I'm satmar, only 1 classmate had a continental wedding. It's for the higher end, definitely not the norm.

Dare I ask what a continental wedding is? Lol

Agree. More than half of a class in the old satmer school in Williamsburg gets married in Pardes, which is around 5k per side. The new satmar just opened their new hall, which costs 13k for both sides together and it includes flowers, photographer, singer, musician and badchan.
70-100k is definitely more than the average cost for a chasuna in Williamsburg

Thank you for sharing. This highlights the insanity of it all. Why on earth do two young adults just starting out in life need $20k worth of jewelry and $10k worth of silver.

Why do they need furniture for $30k in their tiny starter apartment?

That in itself is $60k right there!!! I won't even touch upon the others. It's beyond insane to have such societal expectations, even more so now when so many are struggling immensely with finances.

It's beyond insane. It's sickening.

It's not everywhere
In England theres no furniture sets given

Continental is a wedding hall (עולם) in Williamsburg. It’s considered to be high end.

Also 30k on furniture is kinda a funny joke if your on yad shniah of similar and you see young couples posting their bedroom sets with like 8 pieces that’s the parents from spent 10k on and no one even wants it for $1500..
don’t spoil young kids. They don’t know what they want

This is such a sad scenario.
Smart parents buy second hand.

This exactly. You can have furniture for an entire apartment for 5-6k. Linens, appliances etc for max 3 k. Lets say you wanna splurge and get top brand washing machine, dryer, dishwasher Miele..makes sense because it should last. Fine 5k.

If ppl can afford then yes obviously they can splurge, furniture will last a long time. But if you can't afford, then you can't. So many people in Israel living in poverty, raising lots of children in tiny apartments and hardly have money for food. I dont think spoiling newlyweds with unnecessary luxuries is the way to go.

Sensible! How many people did you have at the dinner? It sounds very very cheap. We can't make a bar mitzvah for under 6-10k in England. Well technically people do but they cater it themselves then.

So you mean that when you say a 55k wedding it's really 110k wedding? Are the other prices given also just one side?
