Do you check your work emails out of hours? If your boss didn’t ask you to.

Yes. Absolutely. But I have a position of authority in my office. I try to head off emergencies and stay abreast of things happening with clients. I don’t respond to emails after about 9 and before 8 except in very extreme circumstances.

Most definitely not. Work stresses me out way more than enough between the hours of 9am and 5pm.

I don't look on purpose. But I sometimes see, bc I have it on my phone and the reason I have it on my phone is bc I'm not always at my desk.

To this, I’m adding - my boss has asked me on occasion to put my work email on my phone and I tell her no. My job does not require out of office hours. If I need my work email on my phone, it means my time management in office is ineffective. On occasion, somebody from work will text me with a work matter and that is fine and reasonable. I draw the line to protect my work/life balance. I have an office laptop at home with the capability of remoting in to my office server. If I have to do that on rare occasion, I’m OK with it. I’m not paid enough to be accessible around the clock. Nor should my position require it. My boss has gotten frustrated at times, however, I am the only employee that does not have a portion of my phone bill and my phone paid for by the office. If they want to make that a requirement of my job, with reasonable raise as well to account for more hours, they can reimburse me for my phone and part of my bill as well. Until that time comes, I’m not checking my work email outside of work.
