Accidents are #1 or #2? If accidents are #1 you need a urologist.

What’s the gi going to do?

Btw the accidents are wet accidents mostly though recently he had 2 poops for the first time.

Your child has encopresis. They will proscribe a full clean out. Sometimes this can be done at home. Sometimes it must be done in a hospital if severe. Stool gets impacted and liquid leaks around. Then once fully cleaned out, you stay on maintenance miralax. Go to a pediatric GI.

Just as a follow up- his accidents are mostly number 1. He recently had 2 number two but that never happened before. The number 1 accidents been happening for a really long time already.

I took him to a urologist and she thought it was behavioral plus she said I can do mirilax. I thought maybe she was right but once he started having dirty accidents I can’t bury my head in the sand anymore.

Please look into MOP.

We went through this, gastro are no help.

Merilax only helps some kids it doesn't help with sever cases. Nor does magnesium.

I finally got my life back when we started two glycerin enemas a day . We put pure glycerin in a syringe we put it up him twice a day morning and night. You need to do it for a while before you ween off it.

Go onto you tube watch the "the poo in you". Then get an x ray to see how bad it is.
Then you can decide what you need to do
Sever cases need a daily enema regime to clear them out.

In the mean time if you can't bring yourself to do daily enemas use exlax.

Same I had this 4 year and a half. Was not easy. Finally gave a little miralax and did magic ( had tried it a year earlier and it didn't help)

I’m so frustrated. Dc keeps having accidents. They’re definitely constipated though it’s also worse when they’re busy and just decide to make in their underwear instead of stopping and going to the bathroom. They always smell. I’ve tried mirilax half capful once a day and didn’t see an improvement. I really need something quick and that will work. I’m having a baby soon and need to tackle this beforehand on the very limited energy I currently have. Please help a momma and her child out!

Tia

Why not a full capful (up to the line)?

I found that giving a partial dose doesn’t help if things are backed up. Once it’s all out, I gave a smaller dose for maintenance.

We went through similar. Constipation can cause #1 accidents. They need to be cleared completely - we used movicol in super high volume and sodium picosulfate to clear him out and are now on a maintenance dose daily.

Try treating for pinworms. Worked almost overnight for my kids, this is their only symptom.

If you really want to get to the root of constipation, you'll need to take a good hard look at diet and gut health.

Children shouldn't have to be dependant on enemas and laxatives to have normal, consistent bowel movements.

In a nutshell the MOP protocol is not about being on enemas and laxatives, for life.
The premise is that the constipation caused the rectum to stretch, so the protocol is about keeping it clear for long enough to allow it to shrink back to size and heal.

In other words if you empty it once and don’t maintain, the extra space will get filled and possibly impacted again. You need to physically empty it every day (enema) until there is no more extra space - it’s shrunk back and healed.

constipation will cause both urinary and poop accidents.... Find an excellent GI. Do a cleanout. Switch to an EX LaX maintainece protocol. Focus on a good diet and eventually you will wean off the EX LAX.

We did Cranial for ongoing constipation.
The constipation stopped THAT week and never returned.
