I was.

Chazzan Saal was amazing, and supposedly gets $10,000 for a Shabbos, which someone sponsored.

Anyone have thoughts on how having this calibre Chaazan daven in the Shul, if they definitely cant afford to hire him permanently?

Just wondering.

Can you think of any guest speaker who theyve hired, who costs $10,000?

My friend was there and says it was beautiful. I hear they got a new young rabbi and trying to attract a young crowd and get more people to start coming again. Seems like most of their old crowd has died out or moved away.
Rosh hashana and Yom Kippur was also beautiful, and they planning to have something special for shabbos Rosh Chodesh and also speakers during the week.

It's common for shuls to have an event where they hire a big chazan. Has nothing to do with hiring him permanently. It's more like a concert . I assume also that if he has a permanent position it pays less per week than a special occasion.

Wouldnt $10,000 a month cover a regular (weekly) Chazzan, perhaps not as good, but would attract more regulars to the Shul?

I mean I'm not on their board, just saying this is a thing people do.
