This is really hard for me but I have come to the conclusion that I am addicted to imamother. I have a baby and I work 9-2. I get home around 2:30 every day and instead of doing things I need to like cleaning up, laundry... I get stuck on here for around 3 hours. An hour to a half hour before my husband comes home I rush to put up supper and clean up so it looks like I did something with all the time I am home. And then supper is usually late but I blame it on the baby (he does get cranky at the time I make supper and dh is very nice and understanding but I still like to have supper ready when dh comes home because we're both hungry then). I feel so yucky because I am wasting so much time and I hardly ever play with my baby because I'm on here. Also every time dh goes out - to daven/learn/wedding... I am back on imamother, wasting SO MUCH TIME!!! I can't anymore I feel horrible but I can't stop!!! Does anyone have any ideas for me? Maybe yael can block my ip address from accessing the website (does that work if I use incognito?) Won't help if I cancel my account because I can still access imamother I just can't post and I don't post so much anyway.

It’s really hard! I get you. I’m embarrassingly addicted, I spend hours on here each day.

If you have an iPhone, you can block the site or restrict it to a certain amount of time using screen time in settings.

Thanks for your response. I am not taking care of my responsibilities because of this!! I don't know how to stop. I don't have a smart phone, I use a computer.

So courageous of you to reach out for encouragement to try to stop! Are you an all or nothing type? Or like to do it in pieces?

If the latter, start with getting off 15 mins earlier 1x a week.

Also try to watch some "vneshmartem" videos, they can inspire.

Your family needs you, you need you, the real you, not the computerized you and not the distracted you!
Try to figure out other fun and more gratifying ideas to fill those 15 mins with, and work your way up slowly.

Come back to this thread in a week and let us know how it goes!
You can do it! Your spouse, kid, and self will thank you later!

I've gotten rid of Instagram and you tube. Both were so so hard for me. I did it for elul and that made it easier. Maybe plan to quit imamother cold turkey just for Chanukah. Anyways you'll be busy with your family and parties and stuff. Come back after Chanukah and see how you feel about the whole thing. I landed on that I can't use Instagram responsibly so now I'm off it for good. We'll see about you tube... The first few days are the worst after that it's much easier.

dont fight it. allow yourself after work but set a timer for half hour and then go take care of your kid and household chores. if youre done early, you get bonus another half hour.
and no snoozing the timer Smile
I also find that I spend lots of time but its only once all kids are in bed
from 3-7 is kids only and no screens or phone calls at all

Fighting it and making timers and limits didn't work for me.
I blocked about 80 forums (did you know we have so much more than that?) so that I only see a small percentage of threads that are really happening. Very often there isn't anything interesting going on with the forums that are open for me so even if I check in a few times a day I don't get stuck here because it's pretty boring. So after a few minutes I shut it and go back to my duties. This trick worked best for me.

Two things-
first I am totally here with you. I used to be exact same with all different sites and still am to an extent but I use things to help me by not allowing me to access it that much
I have a program called focusme which I pay for, It's relatively cheap- maybe 40$ per year and you can set limits on websites. You can maybe also do this through your filter but I'm not sure
So I have a 10 minute time limit to use ima mother daily
I can elaborate more if you want
My husband knows the code for the time limit so if I need something and am out of time he can override...

Would it work for you if you push off opening your computer until supper is done and the house is in decent shape?
Btw your baby being cranky when you make supper can be cause he knows now you'll be giving him a bit attention.

By preferences. Make sure to save it after you selected all forums you want to block.

I also find it faster to go to homepage and hold down control key while clicking on the threads I want to see. I open tons of tabs but at least I'm not going back and forth. Then I just go thru all the tabs (threads) and for some reason this saves ne so much time, cuz I don't reread the same thread over and over.

Same here. And introductions (at that time we had lots of drama on that forum). And many many more. I don't even remember what I'm missing.
