You could reach out to Dalia at fully in balance. She's wonderful and may have some ideas as I know she's worked with women with hormonal issues.
She does 5 day Resets and other programs which give you a glimpse into her mindset. The way you wrote just resonates with her philosophy and way of being in balance.
She is starting a new 5 day reset soon. She also works 1-on-1.

So sorry OP, some people have a much harder time losing weight due to genetics.
At the end of the day, if you consume less colories than you burn, you will lose weight. If you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. That bar will depend on how quickly your body burns colories (and of course excercise will help you lose calories as well).
Do you count your colorize intake? As others have said, it is possible to be eating in a way that is generally healthy and balanced but still high enough in calories that you’re not going to lose weight. There is more to health than having a low weight, but if you are trying to lose weight you may need to eat lower colorie foods, eat less often, or consume less when you do eat.

Go to a reputable registered dietician who can analyze full blood work.
Weight loss is a combination of knowing the way your individual body and metabolism work and eating and exercise.

I'm not willing to go on medication at this point.
I've totally revamped my lifestyle. I eat very clean, only eat in a ten hour window, brisk walking regularly, once or twice a week yoga or low stress weighted workout, drink plenty of water, low carb.
I'm not looking to do anything extreme like keto or IF. I believe in living a balanced lifestyle. I believe there must be an imbalance somewhere. I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and pcos, both of which seem to be in remission at this point bh. But the weight just won't budge.
I literally go crazy when I hear people say they cut out flour and sugar and dropped tons of weight. I've eliminated those things years ago and nothing doing. I'm so frustrated, this literally makes me cry.
Can anyone please please help me? What's the magic secret?? |
Did you get tested for insulin resistance?

I think if you normally stay home a lot and you went out this Yom Tov /shul .. it suddenly hits you that so many people are very thin.
I think I only saw one other person in shul who was heavier than me on simchas Torah.
Yes, there were people who weighed more than me but they are much taller. So proportionately, I’m heavier because I’m very short and overweight.
And it’s hard when you realize that most people are thinner. You definitely don’t feel good about yourself.

What type of calories you are eating make much more of a difference. |
According to The Mayo Clinic - that’s the only way to lose weight.
The type of calories does NOT matter for weight loss. (Obviously if you eat protein calories you’ll be fuller and more satisfied than calories from candy - and it will be more likely you’ll be able to stick to a calorie limit… but doesn’t matter for weight loss)
There was a person who ate the same amount of calories in ice cream for 30 days and lost weight. Was it healthy? No - but it boils down to calories for weight loss.
Some contributing factors can effect it as well. When you crash diet you lose all your muscle and might therefore have a hard time losing weight until you build it back up because muscle is what burns the most energy (more than fat).

People on keto or very low carb can consume a tremendous amount of calories because of how much fat they're allowed and they still lose weight

You eat less, you weigh less.
The more you exercise, the more in shape you will be.
If you drink a lot of water, you will eat less, be more healthy and hydrated and flush out lots of toxins.
Fad diets only work while you stick with them.
You don’t need a diet.
You just need to develop a new way of eating.
You can eat foods that are officially unhealthy but just a little bit and know when to stop.
Don’t eat bags of potato chips and slices of cake. You know it’s not good for you.
Eat 1-2 potato chips and 1 forkful of cake.
Then fill up on things that are better for you.
Don’t drink juice and soda.
Water or seltzer.

I believe insulin resistance is the main problem for many people, myself included, that makes sustained weight loss nearly impossible. The recipe is healthy oils (olive oil best, avocado, coconut), minimally processed foods, walking (you're doing), and thinking very long term. Don't obsess about the weight, you can be healthy at your weight and it will slowly to get to whatever works for your body. Check out this Dr., because of the philosophy of nutrition and insulin resistance:

You need to make sure you pcos and hypothyroidism is actually under control. It is very common for people to not be able to lose weight if their hormones are off but very frustrating

Go to a nutritionist, get a plan, keep a good journal, go for weekly weigh ins. Go at least 2 weeks and see if you lose 2 lbs per week. If not, she’ll tweak it.
Unfortunately, given our sedentary lifestyles, we’re consuming more food than we need.

What are your portion sizes like? I would weigh out your food and make sure you are eating the correct amount. Also I see a lot of people think they are eating "healthy" by having a salad, but then you look at the salad and there's a whole chicken breast on it, croutons, tons of fatty dressing, etc. My doctor does not even think that eating any kind of meat is healthy - he suggests plant-based proteins instead.
That said, it sounds like you're miserable eating as restricted of a diet as you are. Have you looked into intuitive eating? It's okay to indulge sometimes. Your happiness is most important. Mental health is health, too.

Try it! Eat 4000 calories daily of a low carb diet and do no workout whatsoever and come back to tell me after a week what happened to your weight. This has been disproven. The reason it works is because how much can you eat staying away from carbs

No one has mentioned sleep yet. How is your sleep schedule? The only thing that helps me lose weight is early bedtime. Nothing else works for me.

My doc thought my thyroid was fine. Them I went to a functional med practitioner who tested T3 & it was really low. So hoping that will help.
It's worth your. time & $ to have a comprehensive workup.

I have gone to nutritionists and done weight watchers.
I'm not miserable eating healthy food, I'm miserable eating healthy food and gaining weight.
I don't really feel comfortable doing if or keto, everyone I know who did it gained the weight back when they stopped doing it.
I haven't checked my fasting insulin recently, I wonder if that's the issue. Can fasting insulin be high even when fasting glucose was good? My thyroid was well within the optimal range.
I'm not eating too many calories a day (used to weigh my food) and I'm careful to only eat my carbs with protein and healthy fat so it doesn't spike my blood sugar levels. I don't think eating 1000 calories a day is the answer.
I do have a lot of stress and too little sleep. I don't know if that can be making my body not let go of weight. But I feel like most people who would eat what I eat in a day, would lose weight pretty rapidly.

It's worth your. time & $ to have a comprehensive workup. | This. I was repeatedly told by my gp that my thyroid was fine but turns out I have low t3. A tiny dose of t3 replacement made a huge difference to me.
Also if you have pcos you likely have adrenal/cortisol issues and that can definitely make people hold on to weight. I'm not sure what you mean when you say pcos is in remission but usually pcos comes with gut inflammation, insulin resistance and excess androgens

GramaNewYork wrote: | I don't know the secret but I will tell you what has worked for me. It works better now that I am retired because I can work out FIRST thing in the morning before eating ANYTHING. Aerobic exercise first thing in the morning will speed up your metabolism and will burn off some of YESTERDAY's food rather than starting on today's food (since you haven't eaten yet).
I started with five minutes every morning (not Shabbos) about 15 years ago. Then I went up to seven minutes the next week. And so on. Now I do between 20 to 30 a morning: 5 to 10 minutes of a warmup, 5 to 10 of a workout, and 5 to 10 of a cooldown. The workouts alternate days or weeks with aerobic and weight training. Everything I have comes from YouTube and I only use what I enjoy and what is 10 minutes or less.
I want to be clear that I have no willpower when it comes to junk food especially chocolate, simple carbs, and sugar. I can "be good" for a while if I build up momentum, but there is always something to knock me off my good streak, especially holidays and events. I will do this morning routine for as long as I possibly can because if it wasn't for that and given the bad stuff I often eat, I am sure I would weigh so much. As it is, the bad-carb habit has settled into my tummy blubber, but over all, the daily exercises have kept me in pretty good shape.
Even when I'm "being good" I allow myself a cookie-type treat on Shabbos morning with my coffee. I also go through phases where I will have a square of dark chocolate every afternoon with my afternoon coffee. Those things by themselves would be fine, but once I start with the sugar, it takes all I have to start over again "being good".
To start "being good" (like now, after the chaggim), I don't eat any carbs for three days! I have a slice of cheese with my coffee and then some sort of protein at lunch and dinner (they have very low carb bread now if you need it) and a handful of almonds as a snack if I'm hungry, plus one fruit and vegetables. If I do this for THREE days, it becomes almost natural as if G-d's helping me continue. But then if ANYTHING breaks my momentum, I'm back on the sugar. So I don't dare stop the morning workout routine. Remember, it MUST BE BEFORE EATING ANYTHING. |
Will a coffee before exercise in the morning be ok or nothing nothing?
