When you turn off your phone before a 3-day Yom Tov.

When you turn on your phone after a 3 day Yom Tov.

Two unique pleasures

Last night dh and I decided to walk to mil for morning meal, then to my mother (who's in the same town as mil spending yom tov at my sister's house)
It's 2 towns over with lots of foresty areas where noone lives. Huge hills and unpaved areas. We live in the valley. So does mil. But one valley over.
We also had to be careful to stay within the confines of the eiruv.
1 hour uphill. Another full hour downhill. We got to mil.
Then another 30 minutes uphill to the other end of town to my mother and sister.

So we packed up our food sans chulent and headed out as soon as dh got home from shul. We made it smack in middle of the meal. It was a fun adventure.
Dh and I took turned pushing the toddler in a stroller. And the 3 older kids took turns between 2 scooters.
We took a food and water break at the top of the hill. It was kinda crazy but so fun. Kids had a BLAST.

We took an Uber home. The driver asked where were coming from all dressed to the nines. He's not from the area. Dh told him we've just finished a full 9 day plus holiday.
Kids of course were hyper and in a good mood.
He was FLABBERGASTED!

People often talk about "core memories" my non-jewish neighbor was talking about the time she took her son to Disney world and how it was a "core" memory. It probably was.

But it got me thinking, how many HARD CORE memories we make with out children just by living as a jew. Every morning washing negel vasser and singing modei Ani.
Every shabbos. Erev shabbos. Motzai shabbos. Every chag. All the little things involved in the chag.

Dh took our 5 year old to buy an esrog. They had cheap esrogem for kids. The joy when dh told him the one he's holding and called "a beautiful esrog" is actually for him.
When the rav handed every single boy a chance to dance with a torah (with adults holding onto it of course).
The girls decorating the succah. And helping out with fun cutsy yomtov themed deserts.

It's a life of core memories. And it made me so happy to be frum. And proud to be born a jew.

Only in-town frum people can relate to this - going to the "country" for almost 10 weeks, living in shacks, and husband joining only for weekends.
