I was missing my AirPods for a while and today I was making a phone call near her. She had one in her ear and it connected Saying “my name AirPod pro”. I asked if she accidentally took it and she said yea and gave me the one AirPod. She left and now it’s not connecting. Do I need both to connect and or the case? Did she have it in her bag and lie?

You didn't ask her for both airpods and the case? Why wouldn't you? If someone admitted to taking my AirPods I wouldn't be like sure, just give me back one.
The answer is you need the case to charge them.
Your question is very strange because most people who have used AirPods would know how they work, bc they've had to charge them in order to use them.

I didn’t accuse her of stealing I asked if she accidentally took mine. And then she said she only had one. I’m not asking how it’s charged. I’m asking why it connected to my phone when she was here and now it’s not connecting. Do I need both AirPods to connect to my phone and or do I need the case? Asking if she had it in her bag and lied.

I think if it was connected to her phone she needs to disconnect it first or you need the case for it to pair.

I'm saying it's possible the battery died. It won't show as connected if it's dead.

Didn’t realize I can check location! I see it’s in her neighborhood last seen a month ago (Arab area so I would never go there- she isn’t Arab) I guess she lost the other one…

My cleaning lady stole my airpods too. It was the only possible explanation. I asked her if she saw them and she pulled out a regular pair of earbuds to show me she’s so “old fashioned” and a little while after I saw her with airpods. I didn’t say anything about them but I promptly got rid of the cleaning lady, albeit including the airpods. I just wrote them off and didn’t want someone so blatantly untrustworthy in my home.

She may have “lost” them in her house…
