I have been trying people out for the past few weeks. I show them my house and what I expect in each room. I show them where the laundry goes and the ages of my kids so they hopefully get it.

When they come, ask about them first, if they need anything, offer a drink- coffee or whatever and show them what they can take from the kitchen in terms of drinks or refreshments when they need it.
Show them where you keep things, esp cleaning supplies and ask if there is a cleaning product they specifically prefer, and to please tell you when you need to buy more cleaning products.
When you give instructions, do so respectfully. Remember they are Cleaning Professionals and treat them as such. Stress they change rags or whatever cleaning supplies you want them to use, after the bathroom and between rooms or whatever frequency you want.
Tell them your priorities, where you want them to start (bathrooms , dusting, floors, kitchen, yard, windows, laundry or whatever).
Be around, esp the first time, for questions and see how things progress. Check their work, esp behind toilets, and point out if they didnt clean an area that you needed them to clean. Its ok to gently say, I noticed behind the toilet is still dirty or bathtub ring or whatever. This is important to me.
