Just wondering what people thought of the fiction supplements this Sukkos. Ami, calligraphy (mishpacha) and vistas (binah). I always love to discuss the stories after I read them 😀

I only read calligraphy and wasn't over wowed. The stories were sweet but nothing special. The only one I loved was the one about the boy in yeshiva and the new Maggie shiur.

The story with the down syndrome girl in calligraphy was so sad. I also really liked the story about the boy who lost his mother and the new rebbe. His meltdown at the end was very raw and also helps people to understand that even if kids who lost the parents seem to be doing okay externally, they're not necessarily doing so great...

I am waiting for the letters to the Editor thanking them for such a powerful story.
-The story is a girl is going out with a boy and they were playing a dating game, after getting a card he started talking about how his sister is working at a Shaitels place and might have to leave her job because the place might bring in lace shaitels. How can they sell shaitels that are assuor to sell and so on.
I did get turned off from that story.
The stories did get better from that one.
----------------
In the change magazine there was an article that had pictures in this order,
a baby-a boy getting an upsherion- a boy by his Chumash play- a girl losing a tooth- a girl getting a uniform for school- a boy getting his Bar Mitzvah- a Choson.
I found this strange that that is the order they would put it in. Why not put the boys and girls separate.
I also wondered why if they are putting in a girl why not have her be a Kallah?

The boy in his class who told him if the soldiers come, my father paid them to take you instead of me and then ended up being the Rabbi and his brother-in-law made me so angry. I really wanted there to be some comeuppance at the end but of course this ending was much more powerful. And how could he just coldly laugh at Yankush's sacrifice by telling him that kasha isn't really chometz. Made me so mad!! He's not fit to be a Rov if he's that cold hearted!

This was the only one that was good. I didn't enjoy the other ones in the Ami one at all.

Same.
Especially one specific writer I always skip all her articles as most of them are oddly written.
