My 7 mo picked up solids really beautifully and loves salmon in particular. My SIL fed him some salmon that she had made and only realized after he ate that she forgot that she had put in honey.

Do I need to be worried? It was baked with the salmon if that helps at all

He should be fine. I wouldn't be worried at all. As per my pediatrician it's only for raw honey. My 7-month-old eats challah made with honey all the time.

You don’t need to worry.

From CDC

“Despite its extreme potency, botulinum toxin is easily destroyed. Heating to an internal temperature of 85°C for at least 5 minutes will decontaminate affected food or drink.”

For infants under 6 months, the illness is caused by spores, not the bacteria nor toxins, and the spores are heat resistant. But your baby is 7 months and therefore it should be fine.

As far as I know, cooked honey should not be fed to babies under one. But ask your pediatrician

Cooked honey is not fine. It takes many hours of hot temperature to kill the spores.
That being said. It’s a very low risk. I would not give him honey again but I wouldn’t be worried that he will develop botulism.

She wrote that if a food is already contaminated, cooking will deactivate the toxin.

If it’s honey, which can have botulism spores, cooking does not help

I'm more concerned about the salmon. Unless it's pureed, it's a choking hazard. As sure as you are that there are no bones, it's a possibilty and an infant doesn't know not to swallow them.

I pulled it apart very carefully.

My baby’s doctor is out of the country for yt and isn’t taking calls. Not really sure what to do now. I guess I’ll just hope for the best…

If you’re overly concerned, you can always call poison control

You didn't have to do anything at all. There's a slight slight chance, far less than .1%, that it was infected. If the baby gets sick you'll know what to do.

Salmon is not a choking hazard please don’t spread false information. Babies can eat everything. You do not have to feed babies puréed food this is false and outdated. Read up on baby led weaning to educate yourself on safe eating for babies.

Common misconception but no cooking does t get rid of the botulism issue.
