We were decorating the sukkah earlier, and thinking about the last time we were in there. Motzei Simchat Torah last year, as were taking the Sukkah down and listening to the news and trying to make sense of what had happened.

I realised I want something marking the events in my sukkah. This year Sukkot and Simchat Torah aren't going to be exactly as normal, and we can't pretend they will. The thing is I don't know exactly what I want. A picture of the chatufim isn't suitable for the sukkah. A friend suggested a yahrzeit candle, but that's not practical, either. I thought of using yellow ribbons, but that's become too politicised.

Does anyone have any ideas? Something that will reflect and remind us of what happened (not that we can forget), but can maybe infuse the horror with a degree of optimism, that won't clash too badly with the spirit of Yom Tov?

I think pictures of hostages are perfect and appropriate. It’s like inviting them to share your Yom tov while remembering their suffering at the same time.

Our yishuv handed out a poster to each family. On each poster, is a different individual whom died in service in this war, whom has some connection to the families of Itamar. We're supposed to learn Torah lilui nishmato in the sukkah

I like the picture that went around of the chareidi and the chayal embracing. It reminds me of what brought it all on, but is a picture of achdus.
