It would be like calling a Shlomo “Motty “ or a Dovid “Yitzi”. Doesn’t make any sense

I wouldn't use the nicknames you said. |
Only if your last name is Diamond

If you’re giving Zanvel as a middle name, the logical nickname is Zan.

Or Chazan. Best with a last name like Helfgot.

You've met anyone named Zan before?

Zan the man for the nickname
In all seriousness, Chaim is a beautiful name and he would be named after a great tzaddik but don't give a name you hate.

It is not a stand alone name, it’s short for Nachman or Nachum.

Zan (rhymes with pan) might be kinda cool. Like Dan but with a Z.

I know a Chaimy - Like Hymie with a Ch sound.
But Chaim is such a beautiful, classy name...what's not to like?

Any boys named for the ribnitzer I know all go by full name. There are no nicknames for either name. Depending on your community (most with name have chasidush leaning) most the nicknames here would not be socially appropriate.
I have a chaim and understand your hesitancy. I did not like the name at birth and called him by two names. I tried nicknames chaimle, chaimkle. He became known by chaim. I love him. And his name is his name

Over time I became more ok with the name chaim even tho I very much prefer nicknames. And we don't use the name zanvil at all. |
You're so special, I'm not sure I'm at that point yet..

I see all your suggestions, thank you, but I think that most of these nicknames are for little boys, after a while they "grow out of it"
So yeah, I know I'm kind of "limited" with nicknames...

Our baby is named for the ribnitzer as well, but we just call him chaim, not chaim zanvil

I know a girl chaiki,
And I know a girl Chai (chaya)
We'll probably end up speaking to a Rav about what to do.
I also don't like my grandfather's name....but he was nifter when I was an adult already and I knew him, so in a way it's different even if I end up doing that name. And their is a nickname for that I would possibly consider.

I know a family that has the most random farfetched nicknames and I can totally see them calling Nachi for Chaim. But it’s not typical.
