Do you think I can get away with using Nachi as a nickname for Chaim? I really really really do not like the name Chaim, but DH really wants to name after the ribnizer rebbe but I really don't like the name.
What about Zevy for Zanvel? I don't like Zevy either but it's better than Zanvel.
Any other nickname ideas?

What's the connection between Chaim and Nachi?
Zevy for Zanvil I hear, though a little far fetched

I know a bunch of chaims called Noach…but their full name is Chaim Noach
Nachi is a stand alone name
I don’t see Chaim = Nachi at all
You could do Chai (the one person I know that goes by it - it is his name)

Sorry but I just have to ask. What possibly could have been your point with this statement lol. If someone goes by their second name and their first name happens to be Chaim, obviously that doesn’t mean their second name is a nickname for Chaim. Why even mention it to OP?

You can do whatever you'd like, but not, there's no connection between either. I wouldn't give a name I don't like. Maybe add a second name that you like amd call him by that.

I wish I had ideas for you but I dont.
I know this doesnt help you. Chaim is such a beautiful, classic, meaningful name.
not that you asked, but I think it will grow on you.

Nachi sounded like Noach so I thought maybe she thought they boys called Noach instead of chaim bec she heard it used that way. (That is how far the connection is of nachi to Chaim)
I like the idea of ‘CZ’ a previous poster mentioned. As long as it doesn’t sound like ‘zisi’

I know , I know its a stretch, but I don't know what to do.
I just thought the "ch" sound is the same.
Not sure if Chai would work...
I will maybe ask a shaila on adding a name...

Nachi is a nickname, could be for Nachman or Menachem, but definitely not Chaim. There's not even a N sound in Chaim! Yes, it has the CH sound but so do many Jewish names

I think you can add as long as it's not a name after someone else. If the name is Chai zanvel, though, adding another name will make it long

You can do Zanny for Zanvel.
Or CZ for Chaim Zanvel.
There are no good nicknames for Chaim unless you’re considering Chai.
Can we ask why you don’t like Chaim? I know it’s not because of the “ch” sound since you’re open to Nachi.

Chai or chaichai I have heard people use but it's usually just used by immediate family and everyone else uses Chaim.
I hope you find a name or way that you love

Love my Chaim'l (piemel)
Not calling by his 2nd name, because I wasn't fond of the Yiddish nickname it goes with

My father (70+) is a Chaim who goes by Hymie and he very strongly discourages it!

I named my child chaim zanvil for the ribnitzer rebba even tho I was not happy about the name. The rebbas holiness and the little I do know about him made it worth it.
Over time I became more ok with the name chaim even tho I very much prefer nicknames. And we don't use the name zanvil at all.
