I have a relative who is party to a civil trial. Both my relative and the other party are Jewish and while neither are really observant, my relative does sort of observe holidays and takes Yom Kippur seriously, other party is completely secular. One of the trial dates is erev Yom Kippur and my relative asked for a guarantee of being done that day by 3 pm and the judge refused, claiming to have never heard of Yom Kippur (sounds like a load of BS considering this is New York). Relatives lawyers are filing some sort of motion to dispute this, but does anyone know of any advocates who know how to deal with this, who can make sure religious rights are properly respected here?

I believe that's what the attorneys are attempting. Apparently this judge is known for hating white people so there is concern that perhaps more assistance will be needed in this matter.
