So I use a crockpot to cook fresh even for a 2 day yt- put up a fresh brisket second night after dinner and you have delicious fresh food second day with no time investment when the kids are awake. But I only use the crockpot once per YT because I don’t want to have to clean it multiple times over YT.

Update:

I just learned more about this. I need to use a pre existing flame so not sure if a crock pot on a timer that goes on on yom tov wualifies.

Also the food has to be fully cooked before Shabbos, and I am not allowed to lower the crock pot knob from high to keep warm.

If I cook it on low in the morning -Friday morning- it might burn out by Shabbos day and even if not, how do I know if it’s cooked enough before Shabbos?

I have to look into this and may need a new idea to serve on Shabbos.

If you’re leaving on a flame on yom tov cook in the crockpot directly on a very low flame all Friday and then put in Blech not on direct flame. Not sure if it will work for stone crockpots but definitely for metal.

Or it can be fully raw just put it up right before shabbos

I make my Cholent every Friday in the morning and it comes out just fine on low the whole time, just make sure there is enough water. I would just leave it plugged in the whole time but that’s just me.

If you cook cholent on low from Friday morning it will be fine shabbos day.

Check with your rov, but mine said you shouldnt do that this year, as the basis for eruv tavshilin is that the food has to be fully cooked before shabbos.

Im using my crockpot and making my main dish in it both days

First day is minute steak and potatoes
Second day is pulled beef brisket

I put it up the night before. Cholent will be put up right after meal

The Rav said a timer set before yom tov is ok and reminded me to have the food mostly cooked by the time Shabbos comes in. (This is different than most weeks.)
