Prepare chicken when fresh and freeze ready to put in the oven. Then you have fresh chicken without any prep the day of. Works for roast chicken, saucy chicken, breaded chicken, stuffed capons, stuffed cabbage, unstuffed cabbage, breaded schnitzel, salmon.

Cakes and many kugels (carrot, sweet potato, butternut squash, sweet noodle, doughless potato knish) can all be baked in advance and frozen. I like to slightly underbake it and then heat up uncovered to remove any absorbed moisture.

Second ra_mom about cholent prep. I did it some weeks this summer and it was a pleasure. I prepped beans, barley, spices and onions and froze. Only needed to add meat and water.

I find it easiest to make about same meals all 3 yomim tovim. And then make 3 of each dish at a time.
My family doesn’t mind the repeats.

Hi, if you prepare your cholent ingredients in advance, do you soak them and then freeze them or do you just set measure them out but no other preparation?

I soak my beans, rinse and drain them. Then freeze them. Sometimes I also add a little baggie of raw barley and measured out seasonings in there.

How much time in advance can you make and freeze most foods?

You can make and freeze these a month in advance. (Realistically frozen food can be good for 3 months but usually you'll want fresher food on YT, and also keep in mind that if you have extras after YT, you still have to keep that 3 month time frame in mind for when you want to use the food.)
