All the things like nuts, vinegar etc we hold only if it's not the main ingredient so peanut butter chocolate chip cookies are ok.
I wouldn't make vinegar cucumber salad but could be it's ok.
Regular salad dressings that have a few spoons of vinegar is allowed.

Peanuts by themselves are also ok. They're not nuts, they're legumes.

But I actually remember reading on this site that someone said she doesn't eat coconut, donuts, because there's "nut" in the name. Sounds like a joke to me but she was serious. So people do all sorts of things...

I always thought it was primarily walnuts, and other nuts by courtesy.

Walnut in Hebrew is אגוז מלך, the King Nut, the prime example of nuts.

Same.

I'm sure rosh hashona I cant put cashews in the leek salad but I can bake with nuts in a recipe if it isn't the main ingredient.

If we're talking of a nut, the thing that looks Brian like, then it's not almond pistachio peanut...

Almonds aren’t true nuts. Rabbi yitzchak berkowitz holds almonds and peanuts are not forbidden since they aren’t true nuts.

It's just walnuts and bitter foods.
Sour and vinegar are fine, they aren't bitter.

There are other reasons for not eating nuts. One is because it causes secretions which would prevent one from davening properly

FYI this is not like not eating chametz on Pesach. There is nothing that is universally not eaten on RH. This is all 100% minhag and not halacha in any way.

All of this is meant to trigger emotions and feelings of teshuva and inspire our davening. Nothing will happen to someone who eats vinegar, pickles, or nuts. It's not an aveira, and it's not wrong.

It worries me when I see people conflating halacha with other.

That’s why we call them peanuts? We should start nicknaming toddlers walnuts- for the time they drive us up a wall Laugh
