If my husband loses his job, how long does it take before we become eligible for government healthcare, WIC, EBT, etc? How does housing work? I know these are big questions but I don’t even know where to start.

I never thought I would be making this post as I’ve always been against going on programs if there’s any possible way to avoid it, but I’m in extreme circumstances. Thank you for your help.

It’s income based so I guess you’d be eligible right away. As for housing, depending on your location, some places have lotteries for section 8. There are specific windows when you can apply and people randomly “win” a slot. Many people apply in different places so they can then transfer it back to where they live after a year.

It's difficult to advise without knowing your location, I would try to BP JCC if you're around that area

Sadly, the housing subsidies are currently closed. But there are other programs available for very specific items, such as Heap and energy related help
