I didn't have most of the things mentioned but I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out. Did I at the time? Probably.

I bought a swingset for the little girl in me who never had one though.

A doll house.

One of my friends had a very creative mother who made beautiful doll houses for each of her many daughters (maybe the son - I think there was just one son - got one too, I don't remember!)

And we had a museum near our house that had gorgeous dollhouses too.

I have since then always wanted a doll house. I got a cheap one for my girls when they were little but we couldn't afford a really magificant one.

iyh I will get one for my grandchildren.

A cabbage patch doll.

And yeah, to go to sleepaway camp.

Of course my kids had both of these LOL. But reading this thread was funny, the things I DID have that other people pined for.

BTW you don't need piano fingers to play the piano. My fingers most definitely are not.....

I want to get a beautiful collector's item doll house, more for decor than for the kids.

Slime. My mother didn’t allow it and now I let my kids play with it whenever they want. And yes it DOES come out of clothes.

How old are you? I feel like slime is a newer thing.

So many things! Most of all clothing I think. & a nice room. My parents are wonderful but they were immigrants & not very social, they really didn't understand the norms.

I’m so sorry, I know you’re not exaggerating. It’s so sad when trends become mandatory. Like where’s the fun in that?

American girl doll. In my days it was only the rich spoiled girls who got one.
The catalogs were my treat. I drooled over them.
A dollhouse. That was one of the first toys I got my kids.
I always tell my kids they shouldn't complain they have waaaay more toys than I did. And somehow I never complained I was bored!

A functional home and parents that cared and loved me.
My father is a narcissist and my mother was emotionally unavailable for us and missed my many milestones in life. They continue to unavailable to their grandchildren as well.
I luckily learned many lessons in life to never make these mistakes on my own children.

How were kipling bags still in, so long ago?

Maybe cultures are different, Im in UK.

My daughter got one at beginning of high school.
Very expensive but seems like everyone got one.

I am now seeing the littlest kids walking around with them.

Today I did carpool for my youngest whose 5 ,and noted that every other kid im the car had a kipling bag.

I wanted a my little pony collection.

My daughter has one. It was a wonderful healing experience to get it for her (and I got to play too!).

I also didn't have a lot of the things mentioned, but never really felt I was missing out.

Though there was this one toy I really wanted which was really detailed little mini-scapes of rooms and things like that. Still think they're cool, but don't need them now.

I did the same with Barbies. My mom hated them, and it was all I wanted. My kids have sooo many!

Had I known this, I might have been tempted to take my stock of hand-me-down Kiplings that my own DD's no longer use, when I visited relatives in the UK a few weeks ago.

Just kidding. But Kiplings are out in the US, at least where I live.

When my sister (in her 30's) was in high school, they were fashionable for high school girls.
A little later, they were in style for upper elementary school girls.
And later, maybe for younger (if you were the type to bother buying it for young kids.)
