Seminary in Eretz Yisroel. Wasn't a given in my circles.
Only one classmate went, and probably less than 50 in my grade in Bais Yaakov High School (BP).

This ! I’m almost up to sending my own daughter iyH if she d like but it still physically pains me that I didn’t go . Most of my friends did and in those days there were almost no good local options. I was a very smart and growth oriented person and would’ve thrived there ( abusive home etc ) but my parents refused to send me ( even had a way of covering the cost with grants etc but I think it was all part of the control aspect)
Everytime I watch girls ( neighbors family etc ) leave to sem in EY I get that deep ache in my heart

A dsi
American girl doll- I’d sit and pore thru the magazines and fall asleep dreaming about one. When I have my daughter, if she wants one I will move mountains to make sure she gets it lol

Fake jewelry. Fake jewelry doesn't cost alot. My parents could easily afford it. I buy myself now whatever I like, and for my girls too. Occasionally real too.

I always wanted one, don't think it was bec of money that my parents allow us to have them tho, they just didn't see the need to buy us every fad... I got my fix tho, my friend who's father was a world famous Posek, had one and I spent countless hours playing with it at their house!

Gymnastics lessons. I was pretty good at it on my own and I really wanted to learn more! My good friends went and I so badly wanted to go too. (And my younger sister ended up going somehow…)
Now my girls are into gymnastics and you bet I offered them lessons!

I was the kid who had an American Girl doll because her mother didn’t have many dolls of her own…
In third grade I was dying for a sewing machine…

American girl doll
But only because the catalogs made it look so exciting. I think they’re more exciting than the real thing. I probably would’ve played with it max a couple weeks.
I totally would’ve gotten one for dd but she wasn’t even interested in the catalogs. I gave her the option to go on Chanukah and she chose American dream instead.
Gotta let our kids have their own dreams
