Teachers and Rebbeim allow the students to drink

I wish all teachers and Rebbeim allowed students to be able to drink water when they want. It’s so frustrating when it becomes a control thing that they don’t allow it only by a break. Allowing a student to inconspicuously drink some water won’t disturb your class and will create a safer and happier environment.
How can we promote change in our schools and chederim?

I tell my students they’re allowed to drink water as long as I’m not dealing with water spills and clanging water bottles all day long. If there’s too many fallen water bottles we may have to change the rules. I’ve never had a problem.

That’s great that you allow it. In general the more educated and progressive a teacher or Rebbi is the more they allow this. It’s the ones stuck in an old fashioned mindset that unfortunately don’t allow.

She meant it as a command, even though I'm not sure which rebbeim are reading this site...
(Like, "Teachers and Rebbeim, allow the students to drink!")

Also, the OP must be new on this site. We have had countless threads about this very topic in the past...

My school doesn’t allow water bottles. I have tried numerous times to not enforce that rule and got a lot of pushback . I tried.

Many teachers have spoken up against it, we can’t change the rules
I do let the kids get drinks through out the day so no one is dehydrating

Thats great that you tried as a teacher, you must be a very nice teacher.
Who is making up these rules and most importantly how can we get them to change these rules?

yup, school rule.
kids just have to get used to taking drink at breaks..
personally, I don't mind just water (not eating). but I have to follow school policy

Our school requires every child to have a closed water bottle at their desk.
As far as I know there aren't issues with spills. DD drinks whenever she's thirsty.
It's pretty hot here for at least half of the school year.

I think it depends on the age. With younger children, say third graders, allowing them to drink water increases the number of bathroom breaks needed.
Older children can regulate themselves better, but the need to use the BR is still there.

Bathroom breaks are especially disruptive to class flow

went to public school
was never eating and drinking during class in class
we never had a problem with it

Interesting to read. Here in Israel the kids have to bring a water bottle for their desk and the teachers constantly remind them to drink. And it doesnt seem to be disruptive at all.

My kids don't drink during breaks either because then they'll need the bathroom in class.
