I've been eyeing a diaper bag for a while that I really think will be perfect for my needs.

It's actually $150 full price but I can find it used for $100.

I am able to afford it but we're not wealthy, it would be a splurge instead of something else.

Is it ridiculous to spend that much on a diaper bag?

Diaper bags were my purse for many, many years. It's not ridiculous to want to buy something you like if you can afford it.

I don’t think it’s ridiculous especially if you intend to use it for a long time. Also if you compare it to a purse it’s not unusual to spend much more. If it’s an investment and you can afford it I wouldn’t say it’s ridiculous.

If you view it as a gift to yourself it's probably ok. It's ok for people to splurge on themselves sometimes.

Thanks. I'm really not such a high maintenance person in general. My regular purse I'm using now was about $150 and I have it for over 5 years.

It just seems like this has the "mom tax" (seems like a lot of money to pay for faux leather etc, but can't find anything similar for cheaper) so that's why I was hesitating.

I think I'm going to go for it.

I pooled all the gift cards I received (as presents from coworkers and friends) and bought the amazing jujube bff. it was more than 100$. it actually has a lifetime guarantee so when the zipper broke they replaced it with a brand new one of my choice. I
wear it day after day and love it so much. is k buy them for much less from the sample sale. but a diaper bag is something you wear every day and travel with so it’s well worth buying one you love . and I’m a very cost conscious frugal person

Is this your first? If so, I'd wait and see what life is like/what your needs really are for a bag. If you've assertained that and this is the right bag for your needs and you think it has long-term use, then I'd go for it if I could afford it.

Sounds like a normal price for nowadays

It's my second. For my first I got something on Amazon for around $40 but it was never quite right. Not great organization and too bulky.

I have learned over the years that everyone spends money differently. What's ridiculous for one person is fulfilling for another person.
Like personally, I never bought a diaper bag in my life. They used to give these little ones out in the hospital and I used that, and past that, didn't need more than my pocketbook. But there have been other expenditures over the years that I enjoyed, that did something for me.
So you do you. If that's gonna do it for you, enjoy! I find that sometimes the little splurges I did on occasion are what helped me be thrifty in so many other areas.

I have no idea how an expensive diaper bag would be helpful but agree with Chayalle that we all have different things we spend money on.

I have a few kids and never spent that much on a diaper bag, most was $40.
BUT
I am on my fourth diaper bag and it's torn, needs replacing right now. None lasted. One the buckle broke, second the zipper stopped working (bag opened even when zipper was closed), third wasn't really big enough. I imagine that if I'd spent a decent price on a bag for my oldest or even second, I would still be enjoying it.

And that's why I say, go for it!

THis is the brand (and the entire brand has the warranty) I personally use the BFF because I babywear and use the subway and I love being hands free. I recommend jujube to every person I meet. You won’t be sorry

I bought a used Petunia Pickle Bottom bag with my 5th as a splurge. 2 years later it looks as good as when I bought it. I absolutely love it and it was worth every penny. I am so jot high maintenance and never spend on things like this
I'm going to stop using it now that DD is going to playgroup and resell it so will likely make back some of my money

No, assuming your baby is little you will use it at least a couple of years. I look at it like this, the same way I want a nice stroller I deserve a nice diaper bag that is visible to everyone.
