Try a zip up swaddle blanket without sleeves

Anyway I am curious what other sleep methods exist that have a child in an upright position besides for a swing, bouncer, car seat, bassinet with pillows/towes that doesn’t involve holding the child all night. |
I know someone who needed to keep their baby upright due to severe reflux and they used a wedge or towels under the crib mattress.

Yeah, that’s useless once the kid is old enough to move. I tried it, kid just squeezed himself across the foot of the crib and kept getting his foot stuck in the bars. We ended up going the meds route because he was too big to start sleeping in the car seat or bouncer.

I had my baby in a co-sleeper, with the head elevated. He gagged on his vomit a few times.

I'm appalled that any doctor recommends it for any reason. It is so dangerous especially if the baby is not fully strapped in correctly. It's a leading cause of SIDS nowadays. How can they ignore how many babies die when sleeping in a car seat for long periods of time? Car seats are only safe for short trips. Even if you travel by car for a while you are supposed to take baby out for a break after 1.5-2 hours to prevent blood clots, neck issues and breathing issues. Never let a baby sleep in a car seat for hours, or while you can't see them, and never ever put them in one without proper strapping them. If they aren't properly strapped with the chest clip under the arm pits and the straps pulled tight they can die of asphyxiation. I see babies in doonas all the time, I hardly see correct straps. We need to be way more careful with our babies lives. |
Relax. My baby had severe reflux and used to gag on his vomit in middle of the night. I would watch him turn colors and it was really frightening. That is much more dangerous than sleeping in a Doona.

My baby was in a bassinet till 7 months old.
Has an option up one side higher than others. Was great for the reflux

I’m impressed your kid still fit in the bassinet at that point! Mine outgrew the bassinet by 5 months when he pulled up on the side and tried to dive out headfirst.

My husband (a hatzalah member) almost told me to call hatzalah one night. I will follow my doctor’s advice, not the advice of a random, anonymous ima who knows nothing about my child or his medical condition.

I don’t think there is a magic way to teach a baby to sleep in a crib. There are many tips and tricks like trying a sound machine, different arms out swaddles, patting the baby’s back ect. But in truth many parents struggle to have their baby sleep in a crib all night. Patience and team work is the best way.

yes but she said "I go inside, make a bottle" not "I bring my baby inside in the doona, make a bottle, etc." but I hear what you're saying, and I hope that's what she meant!

I didn’t bother elaborating since the question was about a doona that can go inside, but yes, my child is in a bigger car seat. I pull up to my kitchen door, leave the door open, and make the bottle under 10 feet from the baby while I can see him. I’m curious though how you unload your groceries if you don’t leave baby safely buckled into your car while you do it.

OP I don’t have tips but I just want to say that both my fil and his brother to this day (both in their 70s) sleep far better on a recliner vs a bed. They do it more often than not.

I take my baby out first, then go back and forth to get groceries

And where is baby while you unload the groceries? Because in my house, if I leave him alone he’s dancing on the table or splashing in the toilet (he’s closer to toddler than baby I guess). The car is definitely the safer option here.

He either helps me bring in the groceries or stands by the door watching. And honestly, I don’t care if he splashes in the toilet. He’s not usually fast enough to get onto the table between my trips, and if I need to I will leave the groceries in the car for a bit.
