Ok this may sound strange but this is what it is- My neighbors are nerdy and think I’m too cool for them. It is just awkward between me and them. I would have lived in a different neighborhood but my husband insisted that this is where he wants to live and I just went along with it and thought it won’t be so bad. It’s very very out of towny people and I feel dumb wearing my wig when everyone is wearing their Tichals.. ugh I can’t stand this I’m so upset I wish we didn’t move here😭😭
My husband is thriving here and I don’t want to move because I want him to be at his best and it’s only temporary. Just wanted to vent

That's really hard. I don't know what kind of neighborhood you live in but can you make friends with women more like you who live on different blocks? I have a street without a huge social life but I have friends on the block down and the block up and behind etc just not my actual street.

Why can't stylish people be friends with people who dress nerdy? That's how it goes in my neighborhood.

A lot of what you’re feeling is your own personal judgement. You don’t know for a fact that they think you’re too cool. Everyone in my neighborhood also wears a tichel and I almost always go out with a wig. So what… maybe you feel like you’re cooler than them? And maybe you’re judging them so you think they’re judging you? Could that be a possibility?
I know I used to do that…
Everyone is in their own head and no one really has time or energy to think about others… and even if they do, it’s a fleeting thought like oh so and so would never go out with a tichel… ok. That wasn’t too bad… just be you and accept them as they are and they will accept you as you are.

You're starting off your post calling your neighbors nerdy. Is it possible that some of the judgement is coming from your end? They probably don't care of you're wearing a sheital as long as you're not looking down in them.

So the only issue is you are more fashionable and/or fancy than they are? Seems like a silly reason for excluding someone for being a friend.

I have that also actually but I don't feel better than them. I just think they're not my type and also my husband is thriving! Loves the shul and community, big part of it etc. I never go to shul and don't socialize cuz everyone is just not my crowd...

Other then different preferences for appearances do you have what to talk about? Do you have common interests? I have a situation with one of my kids classes where the bulk of the class is very different then I am and I do roll my eyes a lot from what comes up on the class chat because I feel like we live on different planets but the fact that they are mostly younger and trendier is only a small part of why I feel I cant relate.
