I read recently that you can return opened make-up to stores. Is that true???? I can open a lipstick, dislike the color and the store will take it back?!?! Or foundation, eye shadow, etc?? Has anyone tried this? If so, which stores accept opened make-up returns?

Sephora is one of those places. Macy's too, I believe. There's a time limit, obviously, so check with them.
I suspect it's one reason why makeup is so overpriced... They have to cover the losses of returns.

I never would have guessed! Do stores like Target or Walmart accept returns too or just high end stores?

Not sure about walmart but target definitely does. I returned makeup I was unhappy with the shade recently and they asked me if it was opened so they know if it can be pit back on the shelf. I told them yes it was used they had no issues. It's part of their policy
Most drugstores have this policy as well

I ordered foundation a couple of times from Walmart online to try on. Both times, it was the wrong shade and returned both with no problems.

Nordstrom will accept makeup returns as long as about 80% of the product is unused

I think it encourages impulse buying hoping you will keep it or forget to return. (or not bother).

Sephora encourages you to buy makeup telling you that you can return it.
They throw out every return whether opened or new in plastic.
