I'm curious about all these menus - I always heard not to make fish for that meal because it makes ppl thirsty, but looks like so many ppl are making salmon! Do you find it makes you thirsty?

Salted fish makes you thirsty, but not regular fish. Maybe you're thinking of Yom Kippur, where there's an inyan not to eat fish before the fast in case you choke on a fish bone and die before being forgiven.

The actual seuda hamafseket will be just bread and boiled eggs, but we have a more generous meal a couple of hours beforehand. I haven't decided what to make, but someone's suggestion of mejadhera sounds like a good idea.

I don't like heavy meals before a fast. I'd rather focus on drinking.

A few years ago, an article by E Horowitz in Hamodia said that eating dates before a fast helps ease the fasting. I have tried it since, and find that it helps. I buy dates that were grown in the US, open them and check them carefully before eating

Cobb salad with salmon, quinoa, lots of veggies and hard boiled eggs. I made it once for dinner and it was so satiating, my dh said I must make it before the fast.

Might serve watermelon for desert. Does it actually keep you hydrated or it just keeps the bathroom busy?

I'm just thinking bagels and cream cheese and some scrambled eggs. I don't have the head for cooking.

Ask your LOR about drinking grape juice.

We don't drink grape juice during the Nine Days.
