I have heard of this. We don't do a thorough floor wash during the 9 days.

Either way it's a minhqg and not halacha straight out...so it's not going to help to ask someone here.
Ask your dh or lor.

Counters staying dirty FYI, sounds extremely unsanitary and dangerous if you put food on it.

My son made a siyum last night, and I see this morning that some of the fat from the meat is on the counter. Sorry, but I’m not leaving that there for a week.

Doesn't that just mean stains and stuff are stuck for longer and after the nine days it's a huge pain and hard to clean?

I did not grow up with this, I only learned about it recently. I believe I heard you can spot clean. Ask your rav.

If I'm spending Tisha b'Av sitting on the floor, then I'm cleaning that floor beforehand.

There is a minhag of washing the floor on the afternoon of Tisha b'Av, in preparation for Mashiach.

It's originally a Yerushalmi minhag due to being in the actual city of the churban. Whichever way, afaik it only applies to floors and countertops are fine to clean however you wish.

I have to mop my floor daily. It's absolutely gross otherwise. (Definitely worse coz I have a playgroup)
I mopped it this morning coz I had a migraine last night and I will be washing it tonight too.
Any Rav who will walk in my house right now will say it's absolutely allowed LOL

Pro tip for anyone redecorating their home. STAY AWAY FROM BLACK TILES. IT LOOKS NICE FROM AFAR BUT NOT AS SOON AS YOU WALK IN.
my landlord really regretted this choice and now I'm suffering from it.
