Is it worth fixing an $800 5 y.o. Laptop with loud fan noise (HP has fan issues I hear), that will probably cost $150 to replace the fan, with nothing else guaranteed, if I can get a new laptop for about $700, with everything guaranteed?

Now days laptops are not made to last much longer than 6 years.
Rather get a new updated one if you know that it will cost $150 to fix.
It could be something smaller and a cheaper fix. It might just need gel adding.
