We just moved into a new place in Jerusalem thank Gd. BH bli ayin hara is an upgrade for us. The landlord is great but has made some comments that make it seem like the place is not 100% above board - we are not paying arnona, our bills are connected to his apt next door, we cannot put a name sign on our door, and our apt does not have a legit number. All of this I dont really mind as we are only planning on being here 6 months. Just want to know if anyone has experience with this kind of situation and can tell me if theres anything to be worried about and if this can cause problems with bituach leumi or the govt. We signed a legit contract.

You aren't paying arnona. Anyone living in an apartment pays arnona. So yes this sounds very very fishy. Also realize that an illegal apartment has no safety requirements, AKA, the landlord probably didn't do things inside legally either.
If you have an emergency, how will someone find you without a number on your apartment?

It sounds like he subdivided his apartment, or built into a chalal, without ever registering it in tabu.. There are dozens of apartments like this all over Jerusalem, and probably elsewhere. Your landlord doesn't want to be found out, since that would mean paying tax on the income. I don't think it has any effect on you, especially as a short-term arrangement.
