12 year old struggled with bed wetting until recently. The last month he’s been totally fine. Until then he was having accidents 1-2 times a week. I took him to get meds for camp so he wouldn’t have an embarrassing situation. But wondering if it’s worth using the medication at this point or just wait and see. Don’t want to embarrass him of course, but I don’t want to medicate unnecessarily even though Dr says there’s virtually no side effects. Wwyd?

TAKE IT!!!

It's so short term and u have no idea whether a change in environment will trigger a relapse. This way he has the reassurance to know he'll be safe no matter what. Please don't let irrational fears hurt him. Your doctor told you it's fine. Let him take it. Having an accident in camp will be way worse.

Thanks. Think he should take it at home for the next week just to get acclimated? Dr seemed indifferent

And good for you for being proactive and getting the meds! And good for you for not letting it stop from going to camp. Definitely be in touch with the camp nurse. They are used to it and this is mentioned during staff training every summer and the counselors know how to handle it discreetly.

I would definitely give him the meds. I waited too long for my son, and now he’s leaving to camp next week :-( He isn’t on meds, and he wet the bed two or three times last week. He has cycles, and I guess right now he’s in a wetting cycle.

I would. Just to make sure there's no reaction on the one-off chance. Smart thinking mama!

It’s not too late! I literally went to the dr two weeks ago! Go Monday! It didn’t take much to get

I can’t get an appointment with a specialist before he leaves, and I don’t know if my pediatrician prescribes such medication. I guess I will have to call in and ask. Either way, it would only work if he can be seen on Sunday, because he’s leaving Monday.

I don’t know if you’re in nyc area but I got the appt for like the next day thru nyu dept of urology online. Doubt they have Sunday but they don’t even give you appt with a dr for this only a nurse practitioner so it wasn’t super hard to get appt. Or even go to random urgent care on Sunday. If he’s still actively having accidents sounds like he needs it

How much is he on? The np told me I can choose 1, 2 or 3 mg. But she suggested prob 2 is best starting point just bec it’s in middle.

I’m going to call my ped first thing Sunday morning, thank you! He’s leaving Monday, so I don’t really have time for anything else.

FYI when I called the camp pharmacy to arrange they said you can’t imagine how many campers are taking it

We just got this medication for my 12 year old because he’s going on an overnight with day camp… but I noticed the medication is swallow only or crush and eat with food. Just something to be aware of, it’s not chewable.
