FYI, the 30-40% is after deductions. They deduct utilities, medical insurance and then a set amount per child from your income before calculating your percentage, so actually it's less than 30%.

Anyone in New York state can apply and right away transfer it without living in nyc for a year

Someone suggested that I apply for my two children who are over age 18 (although they are still single and currently living in my home) so that if they get chosen once they're married already, they can get on right away. Is that true? Is it legal (it's just the waiting list anyway- you only submit the documentation once you get picked- so I'd imagine it's ok)? Does anyone know how I would apply for them? Do I put them in as living on their own?

My father-in-law worked for HUD and the waiting list opened when my husband and his brother was single. He applied for both of them, so I would think it's legal. Not sure what he put down.
We sat on the list for years and got a letter after we brought a house so it was null and void.
