If your things aren’t coming clean with urine on items there is a problem with your washing machine.

Most. Certainly. Not.

Urine is one of the strongest odors to get out of fabric. You don’t want to contaminate all of your clothes in case a slight scent lingers. I’ve been to peoples homes where the entire home subtly smells of urine. Most often this is due to the reason above. Once you’ve contaminated everything, there’s no undoing it. Don’t do it please.

This is untrue.
Sometimes dark condensed uring can smell harsher than normal, and if the item has been sitting around for a couple of days, you may have to take extra steps to get the odor out.

Okay, good point. I wash wet things right away, and just throw in more clothes on top. If you do that, it should come out without a problem.

If it's particularly stinky or old urine that you're not sure will come out in the wash, then sure, don't put other things into the load with it. But otherwise, I don't see why not.

How can you say with such certainty that most often the cause of subtle urine smell comes from washing other clothing with the sheets?

In my opinion, houses with the urine smell come from urine having soaked into the hardwood or even into the grout between the tiles.

If I washed a load and the urine smell lingers, I will wash again. It doesn't matter if it's just a sheet or if it's a whole load of clothing.

Nope nope nope. I wash bedwetting sheets right away with other things with detergent and laundry beads and I'm asked all the time what I use to wash clothing cuz we all smell so good. I know what you mean about the urine smell... I've smelled it in other houses. Its the unprotected mattresses
