Some add benefits, others add strain. The world is made up of all kinds...

What is "society" if not the people you're discussing?

It ebbs and flows. I think everyone is a strain to society at some point and society benefits from them at another point. At the end of their life, most people are a net benefit to society. There are obviously exclusions (rapists, murderers, terrorists will never be a net positive to society even if one of them discovers a cure for cancer)

I’m talking the people for the people.

Basing it on a post that countries want to up their birth rate, since it’s good for their economy…

Since dh and I pay a fortune in taxes, get no freebies, have a business that creates things, I’m guessing we are contributors rather than withdrawers.

Kind of by definition, most people provide a net benefit to society. So much so that we take it for granted. The vast majority of people work at a job that benefits society and then spend money in the way that benefits the economy and perhaps have a family and give free support that way to others.

Adam Smith wrote up about this, how by people benefiting themself they are benefiting society.
...the baker bakes his bread for profit, but that helps other people because they don't have to bake bread. Or something to that effect, don't remember the exact quote.

More people mean more business, everyone needs to eat, to have shelter, ect...
Someone needs to supply them.
The richest part of this country are the parts with the most people while some of the poorest parts have Population shrink.

More people more money that moves around.
