I'm so curious about this one! I'm also a descendent of the Shach and his daughter Esther but totally not chasidish and I've never met anyone else that was a descendent.

My father was a Cohen, so I'm a descendant of Ahron Ha Kohen on my Dad's side.
On my mother's side there are no famous people as far as I know, but my maternal great, great grandmother Rebecca (Rivka) Van Amering was really mesirus nefesh for her Yiddishkeit.
She, her husband and children lived in cramped conditions with nowhere to store Pesach keilim, so every year she would save up pennies here and there and buy new keilim for Pesach,which were kept for chametz afterwards;her chametz keilim were given to non Jewish neighbours.
Sadly her children who saw only poverty went off the derech and the family remained not frum for many decades, and then BH I found my way back.
I was very touched to find out that her name was Rivka, which is my middle name.
So, I can't claim much yichus from any great rabbonim but I'm incredibly proud to be descended from such a special lady.
It will be interesting to see if anyone else here is descended from the Van Amering/Ameringen family.
