Ok, I'm laughing; 'cos I'm 33 and you just taught me that 'dais' is not Yiddish
Plus I still don't know how to pronounce it!!
Maybe it's because I've only ever seen the word in a Jewish context.

someone just used the word patriarch in a sentence and I was rolling. she pronounced it like matriach
( to be matriach someone, not matriarch of a family)
I see why she thought it was a yiddish word

Lol about dais. The first time I heard it, I thought the same.
Tumult is yiddish.
Tumultuous is the English word (too-mulch-ooo-es).
