I need a new idea for gefilte fish loaf. I sometimes cook it in a spicy tomato sauce with onions and peppers, sometimes defrosted, formed ito balls in sweet tomato sauce with carrots and onion, I sometimes serve it hot friday night. What else can I do, Ilike to try something new....TIA

Do you want one that's totally different from the ones you mentioned? B/c I have one with tomato/mushroom sauce (not spicy) peppers, onions and mushrooms that's always a hit...or one where you defrost it and make patties, with vegetables and some interesting spices...They sound a bit similar to yours, though, so don't know if it would interest you...Let me know if you are. Also you can check out the "fish" section in the recipes thread, you may find some ideas there.

it is a just-just fit - if you need for more than 6 ppl I would double the recipe.
you can really use whatever size spinach you like - I usually use the smaller one but I've also used a larger bag and it was good too.

no problem! also, you can play with the amt of seasoning...once I added more by accident and it was still good. so you can add more or less according to your taste

thank you everyone. Guess what? dh takes the laptop to work and was not home when it was time to cook so I couldnt check on your replies, I made up something red and spicy, sliced the semi defrosted fish into the sauce AND THEN I BURNED IT. Tomorrow I will buy a jar of fish.

I make a very easy baked gefilte fish. There is no exact recipe, but here is what I do:

Defrost 1 loaf of gefilte fish. Place in a baking dish that has a little room to spare around it. Chop up onion, carrot and whatever other veggie you want (I've used mushrooms, zucchini or yellow squash) and scatter around the fish. Pour a 15 oz can of tomato sauce over the whole thing (I usually pour a little on the bottom before I put the fish in, and the rest on top). Pour in a splash of white wine and add some spices (I usually use salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder). Bake at 350 for 1 hour covered and then a little longer uncovered.

I serve it with quinoa or couscous. Yum!

I just made this:

put some water in the bottom of the loaf pan, pour onion soup mix & then paprika on the fish. Cover & bake at 400 for 1.5 hrs.

Or smear mayo & bread crums on the loaf & bake in loaf pan, covered for 1.5 hrs.

I have 2 suggestions:

take a loaf of g fish out and let it defrost.
chop up an onion
add some spinach (chopped, frozen, defrosted)
put loaf in a bowl add spinach and onion and mix, mold back into a loaf and bake

and I came across this recipe today:

Tangy Moroccan Gefilte Fish

3 tbs oil
1 chopped onion
3-4 cloves garlice
1/4 c flat leaf parsley
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
1/2 c chopped cilantro
pinch of hot pepper flakes
1/2 -1 C water

preheat oven to 325
sautee oinion and garlic in oil. add remaining ing and simmer 20 min
put loaf in a dish and pour sauce over it and cover. bake 1.5-2 hrs
