I will add that I gave my YB son his best Chanukah present ever--a scarf!--after he told me that it's a "zach" for bachurim to walk around all day wearing a scarf. Evidently this is great YB fashion for indoors and outdoors, warm or cold! |
Haha. I doubt my "brilliant but clueless" son knows the fashion, but he was ready to give in about the scarf as long as he didn't have to wear his coat.
And he was right about the coat. It was totally not needed after about 5 minutes.

I agree about the fine read.
But this is PKL=Potato Kugel Lady.
No pickles involved (except can be served in the side).

BH, no one tripped or sprained an ankle. You sound like very supportive parents. I totally know the type of your YB. One of my family members was once detained at work on a winter Friday and realized as he started his drive that he was never getting home in time for Shabbos. He parked his car by the side of the road and happily proceeded to walk the 15 miles home! It was either that or Shabbos in the woods.

Some of you mentioned that men in general are like that- they have a distorted concept of time. Many men would say that women are like that! That it takes them forever to get ready to go out, while the men are ready in two minutes. (Put on a tie- shoin, I'm ready. )
In my case, it happens to be that my husband is something like a yekke. He has that punctual gene, and when he says 15 minutes- I know it's exactly 15 minutes. I am not like that so maybe my son gets it from me.
I just chalk it up to the fact that teenagers' brains are not fully developed yet, so it's more difficult for them to judge distances and times. What's more, YB doesn't wear a watch, so when he said he has walked it in the past in 35 minutes, I assume he had to rely on his cute imagination to arrive at that number.

There’s a poster here who always has very very very interesting stories and it started with stories of potato kugel so she earned the title PKL potato kugel lady.

Op please publish a book. With the title Potato Kugel Lady so we know what to look out for. Most books are about lofty Rebetzins and levels we can’t relate to. We can use some normal grounded human short stories of normal life with its ups and downs. With your humor and amazing talent in writing it would be a bestseller! I really mean it! Would you consider it? While the potato kugel bakes...

Hmph, how do you know I'm not a lofty Rebbetzin?
Thanks for all the compliments- really, I'm flattered. But as much as I'm a people pleaser and I'd love to oblige, I don't plan to ever publish a book, sorry. (Bli neder.)
Many reasons, but one is that there are publishing costs, and another is that I assume there are many hoops to jump through to get a book published. And I wouldn't know where to begin. Plus, I've said many times, I'm not a writer. I just tell stories that happened to me.
What I can maybe do is something that has been suggested here many times. In lieu of a book, I can try to compile all the PKL threads into one thread, starting from the first story.
While the potato kugels bake...

Even if you are a lofty rebbetzin (I guess your comment means you are? 🤔 hmm) it’s not those flowery drashas we’re after. It’s the everyday stories with your spice, humor and geshmak we need more of!
Eta, I didn’t even see the post you responded to before responding. Just went back to see what it was and I can delete my comment now, since NechaMom explained it better.

Or baking potato kugel for the needy. I think we’ve come full circle!
