Why do people use it???? What is the meaning behind it?

It’s safer than a blanket can’t block their faces. Or for kids that don’t stay covered and are cold

Blankets are considered a suffocation risk for babies under one and therefore some people use sleep sacks once they are past the swaddling age. Some toddlers get super used to it and still like to sleep in one when older.

Meaning behind it? It’s not a minhag. There’s no ‘meaning’ It’s a safe sleep measure

As everyone said, it's a safer alternative to a blanket for babies. It also keeps my toddlers from climbing out of their cribs for an extra few months. (goal is to stay in their crib till they turn 2

I love sleep sacks. My kids would just kick off the blanket and then they would be cold. This way, they're warm and stay warm during the night. It also avoids any concern around blankets ending up over baby's face.
It is an added bonus that they can't climb out the crib until they figure out how to get out the sleep sack.

Why is a sleep sack better then a sleeper with legs?

It's not instead of pajamas, it's used in addition to pajamas.

When I put my babies to bed I would put on an undershirt, pj, with a sleeper on top.

The sleep sack goes on top of that? Or it's instead of the sleeper?

Yes, the sleep sack would go on top of that. It's instead of a blanket.

A sleep sack is literally just a wearable blanket. It is not used instead of any layers of clothing.

What is a sleeper? When I put my baby to sleep, he gets a onesie (undershirt) footy pajamas, and a sleep sack. There are no sleeves to it, his arms go through the arm holes.

A sleeper is a one peace garment, with feet and sleeves and a zipper down the front

If you put on a sleeper over his pajamas, then it’s the same thing as putting a sleep sack over his pajamas. You don’t need both. It’s just an extra layer over the pjs.

So a sleep sack is also one piece, but doesn’t have arms or feet- it’s an actual sack.
Can you post a picture or link? I’ll post one too.

In the Uk the advice is not to use any blankets until at least over one.
A sleep sack solves this problem as it is a wearable blanket so baby will stay warm without having to worry about the risk of suffocation.
Thats why I always used one
