Someone who doesn’t suffer from anxiety cannot understand . For me (and you) in that moment, it feels like you are the worlds worst failure and the world is coming to an end. |
Yes! That’s really great to hear that you get it! I’ve tried explaining it to friends/relatives but they just think I’m nuts 😅. My parents (who still don’t fully get it) stopped bothering about these things after witnessing me in a meltdown.
B”h, I set very reasonable limits for myself these days and I have my husband tell me when I’m overdoing it and when I need to stop.

Superwifey, you are amazing at interviewing people.
It's interesting to observe that people like to share things about themselves more than to listen others share. This thread has many more responses than the ama.
ETA- ask away my friend.

What do you think is the most important message a parent should give over to her children so that the child feels emotionally secure? |
Hmm, I don't think this has one single answer.
A hugely important thing is to speak about emotions often, and connect with your child on an emotional level.
A child who understands that emotions are ok to feel- however 'wrong' they seem to be, will become an adult who is in tune with their emotions, comfortable in their own skin, and resilient in the face of challenges.
When you are connected to your emotions, and know they aren't dangerous; the world is a safer place.

Nah I'm scared of dogs and cats and mice, etc. But those aren't major fears

Ooh ok! Would you mind if they joined and figured you out? Both my sisters are on here and know who I am so I never post anything I wouldn’t want them to know…
I’m Ashkenazi but married to a Persian. I don’t cook much Persian food- sometimes for Yom Tov I’ll cook a bit. |
Yes, I would mind! this place is just for me no familial politics allowed here.
Oooh I love Taahdig

Ready for another question. |
Canazei is beautiful. By the alps.
What historical era fascinates you the most?

Good one Glue. When I started this thread because it was not anonymous-abled I thought posters would be too scared to reply. Didn’t think there’d be much traction. Little did I know!! Ha.
But I guess I do have superpowers because I’m all cooked and worked for the chag. Decorated my sukkah and worked on my table scape. Just need to make cholent and 1 dessert.

lamplighter wrote: | This is a good question because I never got gifts growing up. When I was nine my grandmother sent me the book Anne of Green Gables. My BT mother didn't think it was appropriate for a frum girl and said she would put away until she decides what to do. I snuck it and read it without her looking before she donated it to the library.
That was the only gift I ever got from a family member.
My best gift was when my high school friends surprised me on my birthday with this huge teddy bear. I slept with that bear until I got married. This is an oddly specific story so if you remember buying me that bear, it meant the world to me. |
Wow that’s sad to read. I’m sorry. Why do you think you never got gifts?

advocate wrote: | Hi SuperWify!
I could say I play the devil's advocate, or that I am the advocate for the underdog, but I picked the name advocate because my "day job" is serving our community as a disability advocate, helping families get the testing, services, and resources that they need for their children with disabilities, at no charge to families.
It is an incredible privilege, and has made me feel so closely tied to my community.
I have been doing this since my daughter who has Down Syndrome was a baby, and now she is off to seminary in EY after yom tov, chasdei Hashem. (But I'll be crying my eyes out....)
Good Shabbos and yontif! |
Wow this is touching! I wish we had someone like you were we live. Families struggle and fight to get services.
That’sso sweet. Wishing her (and you) and amazing year with not too many tears. Only happy tears.
