I have a history of taking on people’s problems. If you complain to me about something, I will take it as a personal cry for help and will bend over backwards to help you out. If you asked me for a favor, I would never say no.
I was asked to make bagels for a family Chanukah party. I obviously didn’t say no even though I was asked pretty last minute and had a lot going on that day. I had extremely bad anxiety at the time which was only exacerbated by an having an unnecessarily large workload.
The bagels had to be ready by a specific time. As the time got closer and closer, my anxiety got worse and worse.
When it was the time that the bagels should have been done I had a complete meltdown since they weren’t ready. I was so hyper focused that they need to be ready by x time that it felt like the world ends once I passed the deadl. I burst into tears and just sank to the floor and probably freaked out my niece and nephew whom I was babysitting. It was a really low moment for mental health wise. I felt that anxiety was my life now and I would never be able to accomplish all the things I used to.
I called my husband, sobbing. He b”h is extremely rational (unlike me) and calmed me down by saying the above statement. It might sound stupid and “duh!” to everyone else but it was mind blowing to me. I got so bogged down by deadlines that I never stopped to think “what’s the worst that could happen?” And realize that the worst case scenario isn’t actually that bad.
It was extremely crucial for me and really helped me learn to deal with my anxiety.
I’ve b”h come so far since. |
He’s absolutely right but I understand you! I’m a people-pleaser. Trying so hard to start disappointing people for a change and then to not re-hash it in my mind with guilt a million times.

So funny your sister found you! None of my kah many sisters are on here and I know because I slyly tested them MANY times over the years. They are more kosher-phone people (well that’s just one) or Instagram stalkers (the rest).
But I still prefer boca over Miami, sorry!!
What type of Sephardic background and do you cook Sephardic? |
Why thank you!
Ooh ok! Would you mind if they joined and figured you out? Both my sisters are on here and know who I am so I never post anything I wouldn’t want them to know…
I’m Ashkenazi but married to a Persian. I don’t cook much Persian food- sometimes for Yom Tov I’ll cook a bit.

It started when I joined imamother circa 2016 when I was 20 and married for about four minutes. I had a small marriage crisis (which looking back was really small argument) and because I gave into to my new husband, I thought it was such amazing wife just like my Kallah teacher told me to! (Always give in. WORST ADVICE.)
At time my username was Bored@Work because I was stuck in a really awful job but then once I left it I decided I need to change it and I also thought because I was such a good wife naturally I should pick this user name. I tried superwifey with an E but if I recall correctly it was taken so that’s how I became SuperWify (like Whiffie).
Fast forward, it’s almost 8 years later and honestly I still haven’t learned how to be an amazing wife and I’m not really there yet. And most people in this site are probably married a lot longer than little me! I’m sure they know better!
Oh, my sweet husband will say amazing but then again he’s also the guy that says I look beautiful right when I come out of the shower with every pimple showing.. so if you ask, truthfully, I don’t know but if you have answer, please share.
One thing I learned is that marriage takes work and the minute you stop working it’s stops working! And when it’s working it’s Heaven and when it’s not working it’s Hell! |
Wow thank you! I appreciate you being open and honest. I love those lines at the end.

Up there for me is Santorini, the Amalfi coast, Florence (anyone watched the Medici’s about Lorenzo the Magnificent?) and Venice and Rome obviously.
And Milan. Cuz you know. shopping. |
Right Milan! When I went to Canazei (which was not a history vacay) I used the airport there, so managed to get that in too!
Ready for another question.

This is a good question because I never got gifts growing up. When I was nine my grandmother sent me the book Anne of Green Gables. My BT mother didn't think it was appropriate for a frum girl and said she would put away until she decides what to do. I snuck it and read it without her looking before she donated it to the library.
That was the only gift I ever got from a family member.
My best gift was when my high school friends surprised me on my birthday with this huge teddy bear. I slept with that bear until I got married. This is an oddly specific story so if you remember buying me that bear, it meant the world to me.

This sounds exactly like me !!! I have complete melt downs because for example I said that I will make two types of cookies and I only ended up making one 😂 or any number of bizarre reasons that anyone over the age of two should not cry over . I have worked very , very hard on myself…
Someone who doesn’t suffer from anxiety cannot understand . For me (and you) in that moment, it feels like you are the worlds worst failure and the world is coming to an end.

Hi SuperWify!
I could say I play the devil's advocate, or that I am the advocate for the underdog, but I picked the name advocate because my "day job" is serving our community as a disability advocate, helping families get the testing, services, and resources that they need for their children with disabilities, at no charge to families.
It is an incredible privilege, and has made me feel so closely tied to my community.
I have been doing this since my daughter who has Down Syndrome was a baby, and now she is off to seminary in EY after yom tov, chasdei Hashem. (But I'll be crying my eyes out....)
Good Shabbos and yontif!
