Your comment made me 🙂

as a teen I struggled with low self esteem
working on it was a challenge, until I heard from a speaker that self talk is very effective. And it was! I kept telling myself (especially before Going out to social events) I am beautiful, I am strong, I am lovable (😉) and so on
I am BH in a much better place
But still a work in progress, like the rest of us

Yes my friend, you are lovable indeed 🐻

Thank you for sharing!

Hi writeread! Am I remembering correctly that you are perhaps an author?

What have you written? And regarding the reading part- what do you like to read?

Hi! So nice to see you here, I’ve been missing your posts.

What’s the hardest thing about frum life for you and what’s the best part of it (besides cholent)?

Oh yes! You had me laugh.

Do you actually like the cold or are you happy to change from your boring summer clothes like I am?

SweetAngel meet the devil 👿…. (Sorry, couldn’t resist. But how did you come up with such a username? I’m intrigued.)

What time is it now by you and what are you doing (or should be doing- I don’t mean scrolling this website).

Tell me a typical day in the life of Scruffy (the real you, not the lizard).

I get up at about 7, try to wake up before my toddler does. Get both of us ready and read lots of books and blow bubbles (they're obsessed Can't Believe It )

Go to work and try to stay off of Imamother and browsing clothing sites (not succeeding right now as you can see)

Pick up my toddler and realize that I totally forgot about supper for anyone. Blame the ADHD in me. Try to pull something together with lots of tugging on my skirt. Supper, bathtime, bed for kiddo and then either start on supper for me and dh or totally crash depending on exhaustion level. Try to call my mom then too.

Spend some time with dh, lately we've been doing a crossword together which is fun, and if supper didn't happen yet one of us will cook something. Then spend some time straightening and cleaning. Dh goes to Maariv and I'll usually find myself researching down some random Internet rabbit hole or listening to a podcast. Before getting ready for bed I'll frantically remember something that had to get done yesterday lol and delay bedtime by an hour. Usually get to bed about 12

Bh pretty ordinary life right now, grateful for lots of blessings

I actually like the cold Smile
So much more refreshing than the heat.
Also winter wardrobes are much easier and comfier than summer.

Thanks! I was away for the summer with no imamother access, it was a pretty healthy experience actually, good to have that detox and come back with a fresh perspective.
But I definitely missed some of it.

That's a tough question, I would probably say the hardest thing about frum life (not yiddishkeit & avodas hashem) is living in a society where we need to semi conform and follow status quo.
Where there are expectations of what we need to look like, dress like, send our kids to, follow etc.
I do feel like I've come a long way in finding my own equilibrium and peace with myself but there's always more to go.
Oh, and actually another thing I find hard as a mother, is staying connected and inspired. But that's something I need to make more of an effort on, not society as a whole.

Lol to the cholent comment, it's not actually my favorite food but more to do with my username and being similar to chili... I explained once why I chose it, maybe one day I'll share again.
Best part of frum life for me, I think is the communal living. I know it's a bit of juxtaposition to my hardest response but it's true.
We are so so lucky to have that community to fall back on, to have that support of organizations & friends whenever we need.
I follow some non-jews and they are always posting about finding your mom friends & finding your place somewhere and needing help post baby.
Our family & community centric life where we all try to look after each other is really amazing.
Obviously it's all a balance...
Wow that was a long ramble, thanks for getting me to think a bit today in all this hecticness!

What’s your work like? What do you actually do?

I used to love doing crosswords with DH! We’d do the one in the back of the Lakewood voice each week. Was easy enough. Haven’t done that since I moved from Lakewood and you reminded me how much we loved it.

Are you able to listen to a podcast and not do anything else? I can only listen if I’m cleaning cooking or doing laundry otherwise it’s too boring.

Wow you should go to bed earlier (though you already know it!).

Oof I’ve been called out. Depends on what you consider exercise. I do at least 15,000 steps a day no matter what. My last workout at the gym was probably 2 months before I got pregnant. So 6 months ago? I was really good about it back then and went for 2-3 hours a day 3-4 times a week but I had to cancel my membership because I was going to be out of the country a lot for the next while.

I knew I’d get an insightful thought-out answer from you.

We missed you too! Happy you had a good summer bh.

I agree with your points regarding conforming and staying connected. I really struggled with being inspired this RH & YK!

And also about having a community where you not out it need help you will have it. I’ve been told many times by non Jewish professionals (dr, therapists ect) you have somewhere to turn!

I missed lunch today too, had cake instead. I’m on the road for skipping dinner, too.

I’m also in the web design field!

My jaw just dropped. 15k steps a day and she thinks she doesn’t exercise? Lady, I do 9k on a good day but my usual average is 7/8. (Although better from last year wherein I only did 5…)

Oh, and shes also 4 months pregnant, she casually says.

(I’ll take your leftover energy please.)

And you made me salivate. Although I’ll take a salad on the side.

(Now I’m really curious as to what your past username was…)
