Same as a strep test would be positive even after the antibiotics kicks in and you might still test positive for flu even after your fever Fades after a day or two. |
I had 99.4 temp. In the end I stayed home. My baby is sick too so I’m not getting much rest taking care of him…

That’s very unusual. You had them done on the same day? Or several days later?
My dc had a negative rapid and positive PCR and I was told that rapid negatives are very inaccurate but rapid positives are 90-something% accurate.

In this crazily busy month, sometimes, it's better to give yourself a chance to rest and recover today, so you have energy tomorrow.
You have to know yourself and your limitations, and decide accordingly.

I work in a daycare and absolutely do not want to get anyone sick! I stayed home for that reason. However all the working moms who need to bring their kids can be affected by me staying home if more of my workmates are sick. (I know of another who also stayed home and 2 others who went overseas for yomim tovim) so there are 2 sides to everything… or more, think about ripple effect when teachers are sick, parents don’t have babysitters etc

I had them done the same day...within the same hour actually. Got a positive home test and went straight for the pcr.

I must live in an alternate universe.
If you feel fine pushing through then yes you can go into work.
Before Covid, it was unheard of to hibernate just because you have a cough and cold. No need to act differently now either.

Did you intentionally gloss over that she is feeling weak and unwell? That's not a simple cough or cold. Posters here are responding in kind - if it's simple cough or mild cough she doesn't need to stay home. If it's anything more, she should stay home to not make others sick. This is how it was before Covid too - nothing changed here.
This has zero to do with Covid. It has everything to do with mentschlichkeit and respect for each other.

She didn't say she just had a cough or a cold. My kids have all had colds and bad coughs for a week now. All are in school as normal. If one of them woke up tomorrow saying they were feeling run down/tired. I would have them stay home. Nothing to do with covid.

My colleague came in with a bad cough and cold. Nobody was happy to see her at work. Was told to go home and not get others sick.

Thankfully, I think that’s true. People are more considerate now since covid.

Sorry but no. Colds don’t usually cause huge risks for people who are immuno-compromised including hospitalization. Covid can. There’s a big difference.

So feeling run down is your gauge? Covid these days can cause mild symptoms in certain people but that doesn’t make it less contagious, or less risky for those in high risk categories.
It’s not okay to put other people’s health at risk.

And you think I should keep my kids home for weeks on end because they have a cough?? They don't have covid.

If she tested then there's a reason for it. The reason is she feels sick! Stay home.

When do little kids say they are run down? That's not the kind of thing they're able to communicate clearly...
And no, I don't have the liberty to take off a day just because I'm feeling run down.
If I have a fever, yes I'll stay home. If I feel I can't get out of bed, too. But if I just feel tired and run down? Definitely not. I would take tylenol and push myself to do what needs to be done. I would be taking off far too many days if that was a case. That's not how it works unless you have a very laid back place of enployment.

No, but maybe it’s time to take them to the doctor. I’m not one to run, but when my son had a cough for two weeks, I took him to the doc. He said had I come in earlier he would have said it’s just a virus, but since it had been going on for so long, he was going to give antibiotics. 24 hours later he was almost cough free. Covid isn’t the only thing that is contagious, and it’s not the only thing that can make someone feel sick.

On RH Shabbos in shul the woman behind me and her sister came to shul with masks on. They were the only people with masks on except for 2 very elderly women. At first I thought they were just scared of catching germs. However, they kept uncovering their noses and blowing them constantly. I went home because of this. When my husband caught Omicron he needed to be in the hospital for 4 days. On Sunday RH I saw these 2 masked ladies were back and so I left my comfortable assigned seat for a plastic chair in the back of the shul near an open door where it was very hot here in Israel. I paid for a good seat and was forced to sit in a plastic chair put out for people who just come into shul without being members because I couldn't risk bringing home a cold or Covid. There is a lot of Covid going around and it presents as a very bad cold. I heard of many people with cold symptoms testing positive when they bothered to test. STAY HOME!

As a parent, I'd rather keep my kid home for a couple days because the morah is out sick, then keep my kid home for a couple days the next week because they caught whatever the morah had
